Score Editing: Placing accents below stems-up notes

I have stem-up notes marked staccato that I also want accented.

 

Is there a way to have an accent appear below a stem-up note?

Select in in the Part Box and then when you drag it to the note hold down the Option (Alt) key.

Thanks! I have a feeling that dragging and holding the Option key is the solution to many default problems...

I wouldn't do it that way. While the option key does over-ride automatic placement and can be useful for unique purposes - you loose the benefit of automatic management.

I would do it with a key command.....

I have searched through the Key Commands to no avail...

The key command is by default unassigned - so you will need to assign it. It is called "Attach staccato" - Highlight the note(s) you want to apply the staccato symbol to and pressing this key command will insert them automatically. How they are inserted ( above the notehead or above the stem) is a function of how you have the staff style ( stems ) parameter set up and the individual note attribute stem direction parameter.
