bass and leads

I am creating trance with logic X, and wanted to know- If i start off a track with a lead i have created, with the route note being F for example. Do i build the bass and plucks, and other sounds around it with the same note (F). Is this the best way of making the different parts of a track fit together and sound right together? I am a bit confused when it comes to song key, and scales i suppose.

I'm afraid what you're asking is a creative decision. If a painter starts with a blotch of red in a corner of his painting, should he use the same red for other areas of the canvas? Or a collection of slightly different reds? Or other colors like yellow, blue? Green? The only good answer is: "It depends". You're the artist. Your decision. Keys and scales matter less than what you hear and what you determine sounds good to you.

I thought i might get an answer like this haha thanks anyway, i suppose its just try until it sounds good, cheers.

You could set basic rules, like setting an F root scale, and drift from there, struggling to stick to it while cheating here and there... Guiding rules are useful to start with, as long as you find ways to evade from them eventually.

It does not hurt to learn a little music theory and ear training. Any amount of learning is good learning and, in the world of music, will give you MORE "sonic colors" to add to your music compositional palette. Learning music theory and ear training, to any degree desired, will ultimately give you more control over the compositional process. The more learned, the more control. This is true for any genre of music.
