LogicTweek
Does anybody have experience simulating a hollowbody guitar from a piezo output on a solidbody? I'm going for hollowbody jazz guitar sounds. Here's my 1st attempt : http://soundcloud.com/logictweek/bb-blues-fx-test on the left channel. The right channel is a standard humbucker with just a minimal amp sim effect. I repeated the recording without the effects on the individual channels (still some light overall reverb) for an A/B comparison. I used the "acoustic guitar improve 02" EQ setting, "acoustic guitar 23ms." compressor (preset acoustic guitar channel strip), and the "blue echo" and "phase trip" pedals at low settings on Pedalboard. Mr. V
This is a preset I made for my Godin LGX-SA based on information from a Bill Gibson book I have: "Sweep with a narrow cut bandwidth between 1 and 2kHz to find the cut that warms the tone. Adjust Q as needed. A slight boost at 100Hz warms up the low end. A cut between 250Hz and 400Hz opens up the sound so that both lows and highs sound betters. Sweep boost between 4 to 8k (5-10k) to increase clarity." You could check into the LAConvolver plug-in which can be used instead of a speaker in Logic's Amp Designer. Search for acoustic guitar IR to load into the convolver plug-in. (Not much out there...) Then there's one of them thar' Fishman Aura devices to acoustisize your piezo sound. LogicTweek
thanks, that looks like some good detailed advice I can play around with. I've played with one of the fishman boxes in the store, but was not completely sold on it. I'm hoping I can achieve something pretty good with plug-ins. I'll look for the LA Convolver. Mr. V
Not sure if Logic Express has Match Eq, Space Designer, or the Impulse Response Utility. But here are a few useful links that you may find informative: These relate to improving the sound of DI piezo acoustic guitar. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jun05/articles/logictech.htm http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/aug08/articles/mixrescue_0808.htm IR Utility http://documentation.apple.com/en/impulseresponseutility/usermanual/Impulse%20Response%20Utility%20User%20Manual%20(en).pdf http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/feb08/articles/logictech_0208.htm To be clear, techniques presented here can certainly morph the sound of your solid body piezo-equipped guitar closer to the sound of a hollow body or acoustic that may work in a mix, but not as a solo instrument. But then again, hours of fun using tools provided in Logic.
LogicTweek
Yeah, I don't think I have those. But thanks for the links, those articles look interesting.
