Is there "magic" to using a USB headphone adapter, or is the damned thing just busted?

Recommended Posts

My MacBook Pro came with a USB-C headphone adapter – nothing but a USB plug and a female small RCA-jack connected by a two-inch length of wire. But, when I plug it in, nothing happens. Particularly, in the Sound control-panel, it doesn't show up as a "Sound Output." And, indeed, I don't hear sound when I plug my headphones into it.

Am I missing something, or is it just that the damned thing doesn't work? :D

(There's a tiny black dot on the port end, next to the cord, which I'm guessing is a "pilot light." Well, it doesn't light up ... (The port is known-good, etc.)

P.S.: There's also an audio-jack on the computer itself. To my great surprise, it doesn't seem to work either . . .
