jaredlogic
Hi everyone. For all those that use external hard drives in your recording process, do you mind sharing what kind of hard drives you are using to: 1) Store Large Virtual Instrument Sample Libraries 2) Save and Store all of your Recording Files Cheers! Ploki
- 1TB Thunderbolt3 NVMe SSD for working drive - currently migrating my old RAID0 2TB to a single 2TB USB3.1gen2 NVMe drive for "crap" and projects to be archived - currently migrating 3 old spinners to a single 8TB 3.5" HDD for archiving
mdee
For Audio and Video I use G Technology, Glyph and LaCie. SSD's and 7200. For Archiving I have a 20TB Drobo Server over Ethernet.
fisherking
i have a bunch of (bus-powered) seagates, but just for backup and archiving old projects; i record everything (gasp!) onto my imac (altho, i mostly record elsewhere lol). i have a gtech drive, but i hate it; it never stops spinning (and is designed that way); perhaps good for recording to, but i want my externals to stop spinning when my mac sleeps... Ploki
I want my externals (That i actually use) not to spin ever
fisherking
I want my externals (That i actually use) not to spin ever hmmm... guess i could take my external ssds off the record turntable... then they'll stop spinning. no harm in external ssds, but, if you're using them just for backup or archiving, it's not essential. i mean, i can get a 4TB ssd on amazon for $580, or a 4TB 'old sad & spinning' drive for $90. Ploki
Yeah but i don't keep my archive/backup drives connected except when i do backup (once a week) or archive (once... or twice. maybe three times so far?)
fisherking
Yeah but i don't keep my archive/backup drives connected except when i do backup (once a week) or archive (once... or twice. maybe three times so far?) am a big fan of simplicity; everything's connected, there's no process involved. i don't use time machine, tho; i run carbon copy cloner weekly (and always after any major work); i also run idrive weekly. i archive (& access older files) regularly, and like everything 'at my fingertips'. as always, tho... whatever works. as long as we get the job done
facej
My archives are currently on portable USB hard drives (1TB, 2TB, and 4TB) Working external drive is a 1TB SSD on a USB3 connection (just fine) for samples and recording storage Most work done with internal SSD on iMac - beyond fast Carbon Copy Cloner nightly to portable USB hard disks
