Dox
I am sure there is a simple way to play two different software instruments on one MIDI keyboard. Perhaps split at middle C or elsewhere. Would someone be kind enough to enlighten me please?
Solution David Nahmani Posted December 2, 2021 Solution Share Posted December 2, 2021 It depends on the keyboard, or how you want to tackle it. An easy way is to leave the keyboard alone, and in Logic, adjust the Key Range parameters in both tracks' inspectors. Then you have to R-enable both trakcs, or better: pack them in a summing stack and R-enable the summing stack.
MikeRobinson
"Layering" and "Splitting" is a very common feature of most controllers or keyboards. You should be able to very easily split the keyboard (one or more times?) and assign a different MIDI channel-number to each.
Dox
I need to do any splitting in Logic. My keyboard has no ability to be split on its own. So David, do I define these under Key Limit in the Track Inspector?

Dox
0k. I have tried that and had also to Transpose the second Instrument to -32 to put it on the top keys. So I now have a normal Piano from C2 to key B4 then a trumpet from C5 to G8. They are now easy to control in the Summing Stack as suggested. Did I go about this correctly? Sounds like it, especially if everything is working as you want it!
Dox
I see that I can also put in as many different instruments as I like Thanks David!
David Nahmani
Yes, you can put more than 2 instruments if that's the goal. This allows you to layer instruments at will. You could layer 3 instruments on one section of your keyboard, only 1 in another section, that overlaps with another in its upper section, etc... it's highly flexible. Dox
Thanks David. I have already tried some of this now. Logic is very cool at times!
