Zipfunk
When I download the Lil Nas X template the audio only comes out of the right earphone. When I open the track stack on the lead vocal I get a quick blast of the full mix but then it disappears again. This seems to be in line from when I first tried Atmos effects. When I 'swirl' an effect it comes out in the right ear but then just disappears when I manipulate the effect's panning. (I have checked and the headphones work properly.) I've tried it with the headphones plugged into my Scarlett 4i4 and with headphones plugged directly into the mac Any one have any ideas why this is this way? David Nahmani
Did you change anything at all? Or did you just open the Spatial Audio template and press play?
Zipfunk
Just opened it and pressed play. Changed nothing
David Nahmani
When you press play in Logic, for example in the "Chorus 1" section, do you see two meters light up on the Master channel strip in the Inspector? If you open the Level Meter plug-in, do you see activity on the "L" and "R" meters?
Zipfunk
Yes, this is what I have. (I forgot to mention that audio only comes out of the one right speaker as well.) All other projects come out of both speakers.
David Nahmani
I meant the Level Meter plug-in placed after the Atmos plug-in. It should have only L and R signal.
Zipfunk
Sorry, here's the Level meter after the Atmos Insert
David Nahmani
Yeah that looks alright what if you listen to a stereo apple loop from the loop browser for example, you can hear that alright in both ears?
Zipfunk
Just one. But when I open a new project with the same loop I hear it in both.
David Nahmani
Just one. But when I open a new project with the same loop I hear it in both. Can you share a screenshot of Logic Pro > Preferences > Audio > I/O Assignments?

David Nahmani
Here's the screenshot you wanted to see. Thank you! So somehow your preferences were changed from the default ones. Try to set those as follow:
Zipfunk
That didn't seem to change anything. When I shut off the ATMOS plug in it goes to stereo and switching it back makes it right side only
David Nahmani
Try to restart your mac then start a new empty project, then switch it to Atmos and play an Apple Loops?
Zipfunk
I grabbed a loop and it seemed to be played in both speakers. I went to Lil Nas and its still coming out of one right ear Edited December 3, 2021 by Zipfunk
Zipfunk
I selected settings other than Binaural and 5.1, 7.1, 5.1.4, 7.1.4, all come out in stereo (I see the blue orbs moving but there isnt a big difference or anything spectacular) Binaural and 2.0 only come out of the right speaker
David Nahmani
Ok can you double-check again the Preferences? I find it interesting that 1. you're getting this issue and 2. your preferences were set wrong, so my best guess so far is that those two issues are related. David Nahmani
Ok sorry Zipfunk, I am completely dumbfounded and all out of ideas. Still I would try to create a new user account and try from there?
Zipfunk
I'm not sure what you mean by creating a new user account?
triplets
I'm not sure what you mean by creating a new user account? Go to your System Preferences, Users and Groups, and create a new Admin user. If you don't have issues logging into that new user then you know something's weird on your current user account.
musos
Maybe I'm stating the obvious here, but shouldn't you also be checking the Audio Settings in the Project Settings of the actual project? They must be set to match the Preferences.
Zipfunk
For anyone that may have an idea what is going on heres a screen capture of what happens when I click on a track. The audio is entirely int he right speaker (headphone etc) but when I click it comes out of both. You can see the levels in the master track
Solution Zipfunk Posted March 21, 2022 Author Solution Share Posted March 21, 2022 Ok sorry Zipfunk, I am completely dumbfounded and all out of ideas. I upgraded to Monterey over the weekend. Now Atmos works! But only when I do this first. Switch Dolby Renderer to 7.1.4 (It seems to default to Dolby Renderer) David, you and I checked this exact setting in this post (I went back and looked) Somewhere in Monterey it fixed it. I wasn't 10.7.3 because I downloaded that before the OS update in hopes that would fix it. I'm happy to have it functioning now. Just thought I'd update this post.
