Mark1971
Hi, This is more of a workflow question. I'm working with an artist that is recording her vocals in her studio to a track I created. When she sends them to me I was thinking about creating some stems, export them into a new project and then importing all her vocal tracks. My reasoning was that maybe this would make mixing easier because I wouldn't have to look at all the tracks in the original session. Also, if I bounced say the drum buss as one stem then it would save dsp in the new project. This would free me up to add whatever plugs I wanted to the vocals without worrying so much about dsp. Does this make sense? Is this a workflow that you guys/gals are using? If not, what's your process?
fisherking
i always bring vocals into the original project; i want control over everything up thru the final mix (ie, what if you want to change the kick drum sound? or turn up a single synth in a stem?) but... no harm in trying what you're suggesting. try it! you still have the original project, you'll still have the files your artist sends you. if you can get it where you want it, you have simplified things, and no harm in that (or taxing your cpu less).
