GeeMan
Due to Apples idea of the cost of providing adequate storage in their laptops: Could one place the logic sample library on an SD [EDIT:] Card on one? I know the read times are a little slower, but are there any reasons this may be a bad idea? Edited January 27, 2022 by GeeMan
des99
Sure. There’s a Relocate Library tool in the menus to move content into another drive.
David Nahmani
Yes, it's under Logic Pro > Sound Library > Relocate Sound Library.
JakobP
Not sure what's an SD disk exactly ? But on an SD Card, no, but on a SS Drive (Solid State Drive) for sure
des99
I assumed the OP meant SSD, as the word "disk" was mentioned, which wouldn't make sense with an SD card. I wouldn't recommend an SD card for this application, if that's what was meant...
GeeMan
Yes, a card was meant, not SSD. The reasons as to why not were what I was after...
MikeRobinson
I did that. And, along the way, I found a few "gotchas." First, the relocate option will be grayed out unless you are an administrator. You can hover the mouse over the grayed-out menu item and it will eventually tell you why it's grayed out – although I for one never remember that. Ordinarily you would expect Logic to "prompt you for an administrator password" but that's not how it works now. (I've reported it as a "bug.") (On my system, only one user is an administrator, and it is used for no other purpose. You should do the same.) I decided to "load everything" and it took 58 gigabytes. I have one external drive for Time Machine and another one for things like this. And other drives sitting in my desk drawer for making duplicates. des99
I did that. ...to an SD card?
triplets
I think Mike means a regular drive since he mentioned TM. I don't think it's recommended to put the Logic Library on an SD card as far as I heard in regards to their read and write consistency? Maybe that's changed now? fisherking
i personally wouldn't trust an SD card, but... try it. if it works, it works. just make sure the card is part of the backup to time machine, so your library is protected. sd cards are not as durable, reliable, as a good HDD or SSD. but again, you could try it out...
