Re: Re-installing Logic? Topic is solved

When you log into Apple's app-store using your Apple ID, you will be very pleasantly surprised to find that you can legally install the software on several computers. (And, I seem to dimly recall that you could designate some of those computers as "no longer exists," revoking their licensu...

Re: Score to PDF

I offered "MusicXML" as a possibility for moving the project from a "less well-suited application" (Logic ...) to something else. If what you ultimately need is a piece of paper, then use an application that focuses on that. And, if what you ultimately need is a performance that ...

Re: Mellotron_consolidated.caf is absolutely caning my memory!

Logic has to be able to produce "entirely self-contained" project files which can be transported to another location which is presumed to have nothing else already installed.

Those files are obviously very big.

Re: Logic's Orchestral Strings vs Others

"Ever seen a real 'player piano?'" Well, that punched roll of paper corresponds exactly to "MIDI." And, believe it or not, some experimental composers "back in the day" were writing compositions by punching their own holes into those long rolls of paper. Yes, the very ...

Re: How to record and playback multiple MIDI tracks through external Mono Synth

Since the synthesizer itself is not polyphonic, I believe that what you'll have no choice but to do is to first record your performance to an "External MIDI" track, then set up a companion "Audio" track through which you can record the corresponding audio output through an approp...

Re: Which MIDI keyboard/controller

Funny thing. For me, the most important thing is: " eighty-eight keys." The first controller I bought was stupid-simple, no gadgets, and I loved it until ... it died . And I found out that it would cost far more than it had cost me, to fix the thing. The first replacement that I boug...

Re: Score to PDF

Although this might be a bit of a switch for you, you might need to use a dedicated "music score writing" program, such as Finale or Sibelius. Or, a very powerful open-source alternative, MuseScore, available free of charge at https://musescore.org . (Which I adopted in preference to these...

Re: MacOS Monterey?

Unless of course you're about to take delivery of some new device that will have Monterey pre-installed upon it, my usual practice is to wait about a month (or two... or three...) after a new OS release reaches "general availability" to first consider installing it. "Operating systems...

Re: Buying a used Macbook for daughter's uni Logic work

And, for whatever it might be worth, I have purchased almost every one of my many Macintoshes from the "refurbished equipment" section of the Apple on-line store! :) Here, you can get "the same equipment that you salivated over last year," at significant discounts since the gear ...

Re: About copyright

Please bear in mind that US Law presumes(!) the existence of copyright – whether or not the author "registers" it. Therefore, you must now do what's known in legal circles as due diligence. Start keeping a diary , starting right now: "On [Date-A], at [Time-A], I encountered [specifica...

Re: Logic feature paralysis

Another trick is to try to very-carefully focus on exactly what "bright, shiny objects" ought to concern you right now. Pick a particular target. Of the great many features that are competing for your attention, which ones seem likely to take you towards that target? Another trick that I l...

Re: Change Key from E minor to F minor

Actually, I think that you will find that it does work generally. "E minor to F minor" is equivalent to "G to Ab major." (Minor scales are based on the 6th degree of the corresponding major scale.) This is just a rise of one semitone. Other single-note transpositions might requir...

Re: How to crossfade a song

"Bounce in place" is actually a very handy thing which Logic has implemented very well. When you've developed your song to the point that you're satisfied with "what it sounds like," Logic makes it extremely easy to then treat it as an audio file. (And, since the "bounce&qu...

Re: Copyright Infringement Advice

I sincerely hope that you registered your copyright claim at the time, if your country provides for such things. Then, yes, engage a lawyer who specializes in "intellectual property." If you can clearly prove that you registered a claim of ownership of the work, and that you diligently com...

Re: Naturalising with automation Topic is solved

I definitely agree that ... "if at all possible, play it ." Since Logic Pro is "the penultimate musical word processor," you can always fix your mistakes after the fact and no one will ever know. You can do it section-by-section, making as many "takes" as you like, and ...

Re: Naturalising with automation Topic is solved

Another thing that very commonly changes throughout a real human performance is tempo. For instance, in virtually every song the tempo of the "chorus" will be several BPM faster than the "verse." (I've seen plenty of videos discussing video/movie soundtracks where the "tempo...

Logic sound outputs such as click-track to external device

I have a musical keyboard (a Korg "Kross 2") which can also function as an audio input/output device. When I plug it in, I see that it is recognized and that it becomes the default input and output device in the "Sound" control panel. However, when I plug my headphones into it an...

Re: M1 Macs, internal vs external SSD

I use external SSD's now because the puny internal SSD in my MacBook Pro filled up fairly quickly. (It's the only thing that I don't like about it ... other than a general lack of USB-C ports and that I have to use-up one of them just to provide power.) The single most important characteristic of an...

Re: How do I persuade Logic to auto-detect the bank names of banks other than zero?

"Well, now, isn't this very interesting." No one ever made it their business to accumulate such a list? Manufacturers didn't, either? Wow.

I guess that I "simply. assumed" that this sort of thing would by now be something that was "completely standardized."
