  1. I decided to try a few things and found the issues stemmed from my not making the initial tracks mono before I exported them as audio tracks! There's so much to learn in Logic. Anyway, going back and beginning again and revisiting some of the course content has been valuable. I've also discovered, that hard way, that if you do go to a mix session, it's worth using the amp pre sets in the audio export!
  2. Thanks, yet again, for your clear reply David. The course I am following suggested / instructed me to open a new session for the mix. The thinking was to commit to the mix after having tidied up the recording session and to allow that session to use less RAM. The exporting of stereo files is driving me nuts, so I may just have to go with your suggestion...now that I've put countless hours into the mixing version of the recording! All part of the learning curve I suppose!
  3. Hi, I'm working through an online course to learning my way around Logic. I'm now at the end of the mixing phase, when I suddenly realised that my efforts to pan were impacted by so many tracks being recorded as stereo tracks, particularly guitar amp simulators. I also appears that when I exported my project into a new session specifically for mixing, that all tracks were stereo. So my question has three parts: 1. Should I avoid recording anything in stereo (unless there's a specific reason to do so) 2. How to I ensure that my files export as mono 3. Should I take all effects off e.g. vocal settings such as "Classic Vocal" / guitar simulators and add these in the mixing session whereby I would have imported all the audio files
  4. I've up graded to 16GB of RAM, which is beyond what Apple suggest my machine can handle, but various forums assured me it would be ok. My computer is happy again!
  5. I'm going to try more RAM. I have tried messing around with the buffering. Adding those producer kits made it sound great, but pushed it over the edge!
  6. Hi, I'm noticing that in my current project, the memory pressure moves from the red to yellow (currently 7.15 of 8GB) and sometimes I am unable to play my track. The pressure is not as high on other projects (around 6, but still in the 'green' zone of memory pressure). In this particular project, I have recorded the 8 audio outs from my Roland TD30 drum kit, then converted 6 of them to MIDI and then assigned a Producer Kit to each of these 6 channels. This was to allow me to use individual drum sounds from those kits, for example, each of my two toms is from the "East Bay" kit. Thus on each of my drum channels I have a full set of drum tracks from the Producer Kit, along with room sound channels etc. I have deleted the unused tracks on each e.g I deleted the kick, snare and other unused channels for the tom tracks (but keep the room sound). I'm assuming this is the root of my memory pressure - WOULD THIS BE CORRECT? If so, is there a better way to access Producer Kits for separate drum channels? Thanks.
  7. Yep, we did, thanks! I'm back on track but sourcing a larger monitor to help me in the mixing phase.
  8. Thanks I've worked the problem out and been assured that my current Mac is up to the task in terms of my goals.
  9. Thanks for you help David. I had a few issues initially, but things seemed to have settled down and it's reassuring to know that my computer is up to the task for now!
  10. "Modern Mac", mine's a 2012 with updates drive and extra memory (8GB). I'm planning to recording thus: - scratch vocal and guitar - recording drums (initially e-drums, eventually I'd love to record acoustic drums) - lay down guitars and bass using either mics on amps or Logic amp simulators - lay down vocals - maybe add some of the keyboard sounds found in Logic No plans for extra plugs ins etc at the moment, Logic is a big step up from nearly a decade on Garageband! Thanks for your advice to date! Mik
  11. Whoah! Clicking in the lower half of the ruler fixed the problem! Thanks! I've spent hours on searching forums for more complex solutions. I still wonder if my Mac is up for the task using Logic Pro. Any suggestions on minimum requirements for running a home studio? I may one day record live drums, but basically I'm looking to work towards recording my own 4 piece punk band, beginning with using e-drums and guitars and vocals.
  12. any update on the minimum Mac needed to successfully run a home studio with Logic Pro X? Thanks! Mik
  13. Thanks for the clear direction. I've been reading that Logic is a 'deep' program, especially after using Garageband for so long. The setting was to 'internal', so the problem remains unsolved.
  14. I've clicked through your link to apple and have 'show advanced tools' selected in the preferences, but can't see the 'sync model setting'.
  15. So no solution at this point I gather? Thanks for your help so far.
