  1. No problem, the notes were slightly off centre on the grid as I imagine it was ripped from a vinyl so the speed was slightly off but it was enough to teach me how to play the melody :)
  2. EDIT: Sorry for the post, dragging the audio in and using flex pitch did work. Hi everyone, there is an old grime release that I would like to remix called pied piper by ruff sqwad, however I don't know how to play the melody on a keyboard. Is there anyway I could use something like flex pitch to work out the melody for me if I import the original track as audio? It will make it easier as I will be able to see the notes on the piano roll so know how to play it from that when I remix it. Is this even possible or is there a way for me to work out the melody using something in Logic? Thank you all for your help.
  3. No I hadn't looked in the app store, I feel quite silly now. Logic is currently updating, thank you for the solution. I have used macs exclusively since 2010 and I didn't realise the way to update was through the app store, at least I know now though.
  4. EDIT:I managed to find the solution, I had to go to the app store and select update from there, I apologise as it was so simple. Hi everyone, I am on a M1 Pro macbook pro running Logic, and am still on 10.7.9. When I check for system updates it doesn't list logic as an available update, I am not sure why. Is there any way for me to force my system to check for the update as I really want to try the mastering assistant and see how good it is compared to me mastering my tracks. Any help would be much appreciated, and yes I have payed for logic and am not running a pirate version. I could understand if I was but that isn't the case.
  5. Thank you for correcting me on my mistake. So say for example 44.1KHZ at 128 samples gives a latency of 9ms, if I was to record at 192KHZ those 128 samples are taken more quickly which would give a lower latency? I should know these things, I went to the British academy of new music in London to study music tech but had a serious head injury a few years ago and had to pretty much start again as it impacted my memory quite severely.
  6. @David Nahmani I forgot to add most of my projects are instrumental and use logics stock instruments, I hardly add audio samples or even apple loops. Where it is midi information being fed to the plugins would I still need to use the guide to change the sample rate or would it be fine to just switch it? As in my head it says I could just switch it but as I have said I do not fully understand it. Thanks for your help.
  7. Well I am glad I wasn't the only person who didn't know the reason, that makes me feel a little better lol. Thank you all for your answers, it makes sense if it is standard for video as lots of music is used in films and other types of video so it must make things easier. The slightly lower latency has me intrigued, I have never fully understood why higher bit depth gives lower latency but it is a bonus I will take. @David NahmaniIf it is the recommended standard I will start using it. Will I still be able to work on my current logic projects that are 44.1K in 48K without changing anything?
  8. Hi everybody, I was just wondering why if redbook CD standard is 44.1KHZ then why do most people here seem to use 48KHZ? I have always used 44.1KHZ as I didn't understand why I would need higher so if someone could explain briefly why this is it would be a big help. Thanks, Conan.
  9. For some reason when I looked at the focusrite scarlett the 2i2 came up at over £200- looking today I see that it is £105. There must have been some glitch loading the website making me think I couldn't afford another. @oscwilde thank you for your input too, it has given me a few choices to pick from if I don't get the scarlett.
  10. Hi everyone, my focusrite scarlett 2i4 1st gen has got a problem with the volume knob, if I turn it it cuts out the right speaker and makes a scratching sound. I have to find a position for the knob to get both speakers to work and even then its hit and miss if the sound comes out properly. I was looking at the Behringer U-Phoria UMC202HD as it has two inputs and I can run TRS to XLR cables to my subwoofer and monitors but I don't know if where it is so cheap it will be any good? I don't know if I need 192KHZ and 24 bits but it would be nice to have. Could anyone recommend a good interface with two inputs, one for vocals and one for guitar or even just one input and I could record separately which I do anyway. My budget is about £150 maximum as money is tight at the moment, I hope I can get something in this price range that works well. Thank you all, Conan.
  11. Yeah I am glad I know what it is now. The "monitor" knob which is the volume is very scratchy now, you can hear scratching through the monitors when you turn it up or down, and also you have to position it in such a way that both monitors work which may be a little louder or quieter than you want. I just wondered if there is anything I can try to fix this scratchy pot and save my interface? Also I am a little confused how the volume knob is doing this as I imagined it would send the same level to both monitors but I guess with the scratchy pot it has gone a bit tits up.
  12. OK I have figured out the problem, it is my interface. As I change the monitor level it makes a scratching sound through the monitors and may make one not work unless I move the knob around a bit until it does. So it is a scratchy pot somehow causing the volume to lower in one monitor, so I guess it is time for a new interface. I have a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 first generation so guess it is time to upgrade anyway.
  13. What I ended up doing was physically switching the monitors over so the left one was the right and vice versa. The problem was still coming from the right monitor, the one I had switched to the left was working perfectly so this ruled out the monitors. I changed the outputs a few times again and suddenly the monitor came back to normal. So I gather the issue is a cable that is going bad, I am glad its that and I don't have to buy new monitors. Everything is currently working as it should.
  14. Hi everyone, I was watching a video on youtube and thought there was more sound coming from the left channel than the right, so I tried playing a few pieces of music through them and the right monitor is indeed a lot quieter than the left. I tried switching left and right cables on my interface so left and right was switched to try and rule some things out but even then the right monitor (receiving the left channel audio) was much quieter than the left. It doesn't sound like the speaker has blown as the woofer is still slightly moving making some sound but just at a very low level. I am running from my Focusrite 2i4 into a Swissonic 10 inch subwoofer, then running TRS cables from the subwoofer into the monitors. If anyone could help me with troubleshooting what could be causing it or if the monitor is broken it would be much appreciated. Thanks, Conan.
