  1. I'm recording a guitar both direct and through a wah pedal simultaneously. The timing is reasonably good but needs a bit of tightening up. The filter sweep in the wah kind of confuses the transient detection for the flex time algorithm, but because the direct recording bypasses the wah, those markers are set exactly where the actual transients are. Is there a way I can basically set the markers based on one track, but then apply those markers to another?
  2. To future answer seekers, the solution to "how to copy automation from one plugin to another" is not addressed in this video. I found there answer in this thread. Basically, press 'a' to show your automation. Make sure the data you want to copy is showing in the automation parameter drop down menu. Then hold cmd and click that menu, then (while still holding cmd) select the parameter you want to copy the automation to. A popup dialogue will appear and ask if you want to convert or copy the automation data. If you click convert it will copy the automation data to the new destination and then get rid of the automation in the original parameter. If you select "copy and convert" it will copy the automation to the new destination but leave the automation on the original parameter intact as well. There is no need to highlight the automation that you want to copy. As far as I can tell, this will ONLY copy all the automation on that parameter to another parameter. I have yet to figure out how to copy just a part of the automation to another plugin. Hope this helps someone!

  4. Thank you for the suggestion but unfortunately it's not a fix for my specific situation. Audio busses are not related to MIDI ports. The automatic bus assignment will help control bus assignment when you create a new aux track. If you always wanted to keep the first 16 buses free you can set it so it will only auto-assign bus tracks starting at 17+. This affects how audio is routed, but midi is sent via ports/channels. What I'm doing is sending midi to more than 16 channels to a single destination, so port 1 channels 1-16, port 2 channels 1-16, etc. When using an AU3 plugin, I can send midi to multiple ports in Logic, but those port assignments won't save with my track stacks. When I reload the instrument, it comes back with ALL the instruments set back to sending on port 1. I then have to go through each and every track and reset the port number which, for big projects with several hundred tracks, is a real momentum killer. Oddly enough, the port settings DO seem to be preserved with templates, just not with track stacks saved in the library. It's helpful if I go into a project knowing what my setup will be, but most of the time I end up adding these things as I go along.

A lot of people create custom interfaces for various instrument patches and plugins using stuff like Touch OSC, Lemur, Max/Msp, etc. Currently after switching from one instrument track to another, I need to manually switch the interface I've created for it in Touch OSC, but it would be handy if you could choose midi data to be sent to a device of your choosing when a new track was selected. That way, if you deal with custom interfaces, you can have your device 'listen' for various messages and automatically switch the interface based on context. I'd imagine this would be something that would be useful to have toggled off by default, but the ability to turn it on if needed would be amazing.
  7. AU3 plugins are becoming more commonplace. I often make use of their multi-port functionality, however these port settings are not preserved when saving track stacks in the library which means I need to reset the ports every time I recall a saved track stack. When dealing with hundreds of instruments in stuff like an orchestral template this can kill a lot of time. It would be lovely if port settings were saved as well so I could simply load up a preset and continue on my way!
  8. I'd love to be able to set up a recording delay (with negative values) on a per-track basis. I occasionally do send/return loops with outboard gear and depending on the setup, this sometimes introduces lag in recording times. This has especially been an issue while using a tape machine for authentic tape saturation. I'd love to be able to set recording delay compensation on a per track basis so if I know there's typically a lag of x number of samples with a particular recording chain, logic will automatically compensate for that after recording is done and nudge my audio into place. My global settings are great for my bread and butter typical recording setup, but for some of my laggier processes I have to manually realign the audio every time which can be cumbersome.
  9. Thanks for confirming. Is there a way to move an audio recording forward or backwards by a set number of samples? I’d rather type in a number than drag. The fastest way I can figure out to realign the audio is to jump to the first transient and use that to get things more or less into place, but when doubling that take with the original it sometimes introduces phasing issues depending on how logic calculates where the transient is.
  10. No problem! If you're like me and you end up (ab)using this for almost every preset you can possibly imagine, you can also set up your own sub-folders to make categorization and navigation easier. All the settings default to being stored in one of the folders of User/Music/Audio Music Apps/Patches. For those who use Vienna Ensemble Pro, these presets also work across computers so when you recall track stacks, it will automatically connect to your slave computer and set up the corresponding instance and instrument tracks or plug into the correct instance if it's already opened and preserved.
  11. You can create a track stack with the tracks/settings you like, and then save that. Just set up the tracks as you'd like them, then highlight them all and press Shift+CMD+D and select "Summing Stack". You can include a mix of midi/aux/audio tracks as you see fit. Press 'y' to bring up the library, then select the summing stack folder and press the save button at the bottom right side of the library menu. Save this wherever you'd like. When you want to recall these settings, just select the track you want to affect, press 'y', navigate to wherever you stored your preset and select it. Note that simply clicking the preset will apply it to whatever track is currently highlighted so be careful with what you're clicking. I use this for basically EVERYTHING from single instruments/tracks with plugin settings I often use to full MIDI instrument sections for large ensemble works. Templates are great, but this allows you a ton of freedom when you want to add something on the fly.

My global buffer/recording delay settings are perfect for most recording situations, however I have a tape machine that I sometimes like to send audio to and re-record on the fly for some analogue warmth and saturation. Due to the nature of tape, there is a predictable delay in the re-recorded audio which I've been fixing manually, but I wanted to know if there was a way to set something like a negative delay value for the recording on just that track so logic would automatically nudge the audio back X number of samples after the recording completes. I've seen this sort of thing done in ProTools. The closest I can find is the ability to set a delay in 'ticks', but I'm pretty sure this means the amount of delay would change depending on the tempo.
  13. Thank you! Both methods worked. Initially I'd tried to use 'Copy MIDI Pattern', but I had created and opened an empty MIDI region and was attempting to paste the notes directly into it. If anyone else has this problem, you simply select the target track and paste the region directly.
  14. I've been trying to do some breakbeat stuff in logic pro recently. I imported my drum loop into the quick sampler and sliced the beats and was able to successfully make a drum machine designer track from there, but in all the tutorials I've seen, a MIDI region is also automatically created with the original drum loop recreated with the new DMD sounds. Unfortunately no such midi region is created when I try it. Has anyone else had this problem?
