  1. Here's an update, so I bought another TP link 7 ports usb 3.0 hub and that has taken care of most of the issue!! All those Mouse hums and VGA hums are now gone the only thing I'm dealing with is the "crackles" just found out those crackles are coming from an external mechanical drive, it seems that when activity is going on and the HD is been read i get bursts of digital noise and crackles.
  2. Hey there again, Ski! The VGA-USB adapter is for my second external monitor. I have a 32" HDMI screen hooked to the thunderbolt port and an old VGA Samsung SyncMaster 710n into that vga-usb port. this is the one http://www.ugreen.com.cn/product-756-en.html I haven't had the chance to look at my earth situation because I'm yet to buy that device you kindly recommended. Haven't lifted anything as far as I'm concerned and all my gear is plugged into a voltage regulator does that help with anything? One of the things I just found out it helps a lot if I use the "fancier" USB hub for the problematic USB devices (VGA and Keyboard+Mouse) They're plugged in at the moment to a generic non powered usb hub, whereas my "important" gear is plugged in into a TP-Link 7 port powered 3.0usb hub. When those devices are plugged in that hub it helps a lot.
  3. Thanks very much for your reply guys, To ilustrate the point Ive recorded a sample of the noise I'm talking about you can find it here: - bear in mind it's been gained up, compressed and eq'd to exagerate a little bit the frequencies also tried to get some of the Hiss off so it doesn't distract you from my actual point) https://www.dropbox.com/s/pf2xqk59zlqc3hm/USB%20Noise.aif?dl=0 as You can hear there's 3 "constant" tones, high pitched ones (around 1k) seem to be fixed when my keyboard+mouse are off. then there are two mid low hums. One of them comes and goes, that one is coming from my optic mouse, when the hum goes is because I moved it when it comes back my mouse is on standbay. and the thoroughly constant mid low hum is coming from y USB-VGA interface. Another thing, at around 10 secs you can hear a couple of crackles, thoseones happened when I was recorded and created a couple of new trakcs in logic. As I said, If I unplugged these Usb devices everything seems to be working ok. The noises are only coming from the Sub mix I explained above. Any thoughts?
  4. Hi there! I've been expanding my studio on the recent years and know I have much more hardware analog,digitalsynths/fx/inst than ever before, so I'm not really doing stuff "in the box" so much like back in my student days, and quite frankly I'm loving more and more doing stuff outside the box. Of course I'm still using lots of plugins and software instruments. One of the things that has started to become a problem is the USB Noise from one of my submixes. Here's a quick explanation of my setup where the problem lies: Mackie Onyx 1620i Firewire - Thunderbolt adapter - Macbook pro. (both In and out are coming through this one) all my synth modules including a couple of send fx units are plugged into an SM10 Line mixer and then sent to a stereo channel input of my Onyx1620i. Now, My onyx 1620i is a very silent, noise free machine, have other stuff connected to it like compressors, mics, other line instruments, etc etc. however it is the submix of the SM10 the one carries sh*t loads of USB digital noise and it is particularly evident when compressing or using saturation/distortion units. In the past it wasn't so much of an issue, as most of my modern digital synths have audio interfaces built in, so I could just record the sound digitally straight into my DAW, but as now its not so much the case. Would using balanced cables help? the SM10 has balanced input outputs but not all my lines connected are balanced. The problem seems to lie on a couple of usb devices: My keyboard+mouse (they're not cheap quality) and a usb-vgA interface. That seems to be the main problem but theres still some digital noise coming down even when those two have been switched off. Any advise?
  5. Hi there Does anybody know where I can get some decent exs24 samples of a clean telecaster or stratocaster? I think the clean guitar samples that come with the factory library are a bit shite. I have found lots and lots of samples for kontakt but was wondering if theres anything lying around for the old EXS24
  6. Thanks very much! Can I pick your brain and ask for any recommendations for that 1tb SSD ?
  7. Sure. here's the one I have: Macbook Pro 13 inch Mid 2012 2.9ghz i7 Heres the one I found for sale: Macbook Pro 15 inch Mid 2014 2.2Ghz i7
  8. Hi there, I'm considering upgrading my macbook pro since I need to rely on it quite a lot live. I have macbook pro dual core i7 2.9ghz with 8b ram and 1tb mechanical har drive. and came across a second hand macbook pro i7 2.2 ghz with 16gb ram and 256gb Flash drive storage. I'm not sure how much advantages would I have over this one, I mean.. the processor I have in theory is faster. so not sure if this would be a noticeable step up or not really. also not sure how much of a difference h aving a flash drive will make. however.. 256gb wont really go very far.. specially after installing logic and mainstage so I would have to upgrade the drive to a TB flash drive.. which is something i could do in the one I currently have... Shed some light please?
  9. Hi there I'm a Mainstage poweruser (about 300-400 patches per show) and currently using 6 USB midi devices : 88 midi controller Xkey Alexis vortex Seaboard rise Akai APC40 Line 6 FBV pedalboard Plus my Roland Integra7 that works both as a midi interface and audio out interface from Mainstage . So there's a lot of stress in the USB ports I normally use one of my macs USB ports for the integra 7 and the rest of my midi devices on a USB hub on the second port. I've tried with different powered hubs in the past (with their own power adapter) and they all work great once they are up and running specially in the studio, in the live situation though tends to be different.. Sometimes I have to unplug and plug again midi devices in order to be registered in my Mac as active devices or have to reboot, etc etc. this is not a problem in th studio cause there's no rush I can take 5 -10 extra minutes to make sure everything is up and runnIng or rebooting if necessary. In the live scenario, time is of essence and those 5-10 minutes could mean delaying the show or having very stressful situations between songs... The point is, is there any absolutely reliable solutions on this topic? What do you guys use and would you advice here ?
  10. This is perfect, thanks; Jordi. Yeh ok, I meant javascript. Yeah not really keen on learning anything beyond this API stuff. As i'm a full time muso, can't think of any more uses for it, I think Kontakt has a javascript option too but not so sure. Good shout about the manual, it was actually the first place I looked. As I mentioned, I'm relatively familiar with how algorithms work but not with the language for this API stuff. I looked into the manual and it gives you some of the parameters you can put down on the code but not everything. This script for instance.. I was able to pull it off before I saw your reply (obviously mine was considerably more austere , no drop down menus, no text, etc) but I had to look into the code of other scripts to get to know the parameters this Scripter can take (like on.pitch or sendaftermiliseconds, etc) is this a standard MIDI java script language one can get on a book or is this something specific for logic? Thanks for your time, once again!
  11. This is awesome Jordi, Thanks! The only thing I took off from your code is the Event send on your last Else. as It was sending all the values in between 1-126 which was undesirable. AS for Velocity... I just found out I'd need to trigger between 1-6 fpr that value. I'm using this to light up the LED's of an APC 40 on mainstage so each velocity value lights up the pads in a different way. 1 (or >6) = Static Green 2 = Green Blink 3 = Red 4 = Red Blink 5 = orange 6 = orange blink. In the ideal world you would be able to select the velocity (or LED colour) too on a drop menu. Also.. I think I need to get into this Java stuff. I did Visual basic when I was doing my A levels at school and was pretty good at it (albeit that was more than 10 years ago) So i'm now refreshing my knowledge about all this programming language. Any books you'd recommend so I stop bothering people on this forum? and can start helping out at some point too?
  12. Hi there I've seen similar scripts on this forum so hopefully this shouldn't be too far off. Would it be possible to get an incoming Midi CC value. lets say Breath (cc2) to control an specific note (lets say F2) so when CC2=127 You get F2=note on CC2=0 you get F2 =note off the tricky bit would be getting a drop down menu where you can actually choose the note to trigger (so it doesn't necessarily has to be F2) it can be any note. As for the MIDI CC I wouldn't necessarily need a drop down menu as I could just add an instance of Modifier to get the scripts default CC (lets stick to Breath for now) as for the Midi CC value to trigger the Note on/off doesn't necesarily can be 127 and 0 respectively, it could be Note on < 64 note off > 64 any brave takers?
  13. That works great! thanks very much, Eric! Just one last thing, you know how to delay like 5-8MS the messages for each cycle? like CH1 Realtime CH2 delayed 5ms Ch3 Delayed 10Ms CH Delayed 15Ms and so on and so forth? I know I'm abusing your kindness now!
  14. Hi there, I think this is my first post over here.. I'm pretty good at programing but have absolutely no idea on how to do any JavaScript stuff... so.. can you guys helP? I reckon what I'm trying to do is fairly simple. I'm trying to come up with a script that can "multiply" all the incoming info to all 16 channels. I need this for several reasons: 1) For mainstage, so I can assign a single Button at concert level, to send the "All Controls/notes off" mesage to my Integra 7., I currently have a button that does th is, but only sends the CC to the channel I'm currently using on that mainstage patch accordingly. 2) I Also use a Seaboard and while the Native plugins in logic/mainstage work great with it in "MIDI MONO MODE ON" for my external isntrmuents is a little bit trickier, I would need to send the sam Program Change 16 times os I have in all 16 chanells of my integra 7 or else the same sound in order to be playable by the seaboard. Thanks very much for your help!
