  1. Where said 'Vintage Vocal' track stack preset is concerned, it's just the Aux stuff (ie: 'Plate' & 'Spring' reverb) that's shared across tracks in the stacks right? I'd still need to add the chain plug-ins to individual parts I'm guessing. Hope you follow what I'm trying (and failing?) to explain here. Thanks again to anybody who cares to shed some light on this feature for me. Any info/tutorial links appreciated. Ta!
  2. Hi! I'm still relatively new to Logic X and the whole concept of 'Track Stacks'. I'm currently working up a predominantly acoustic-based song (the first full song production I have attempted using Logic X in fact). Among other things, this song features the following Audio tracks: - 7 individual vocal track parts - 6 percussion tracks - 3 separate acoustic guitar parts As things stand the tracks are all 'dry' (as they were recorded) but, now contemplating the mix stage, I'm considering what processing to use. After a bit of effects showcasing so far I've found that the default Logic chain preset entitle: 'Vintage Vocal' seems to work rather nicely for the vocal parts. Originally I just tried this processing on the Lead Vox but, like I say, it's working nicely across all the vocal parts HOWEVER seven lanes of vocals all with this 'Vintage Vocal' preset individually applied to each vocal part is, if nothing else, a bit full on CPU-wise which brings me to my question here .... QUESTION: I notice this 'Vintage Vocal' chain effect preset is a Track Stack effect. If I were to just place it on the Lead Vox part, what would be the best way to incorporate this processing chain effect across all my vocal parts? I'm guessing this Track Stacking feature would be the way to go here right? I'm also guessing that once I've found a method that works then the same principle(s) would also apply to my Percussion & Acoustic Guitar tracks too. Any thoughts/suggestions/advice as to how best to process the above using similar shared effects would be much appreciated (plus my Mac would thank me too no doubt as the way things stand I'm using a lot of processing). CHEERS!
  3. Can somebody help me understand what my meters are telling me in the attached screenshot? I got a flash sale offer through, paid the man & clicked on the download for this 'Hornet VU Meter MkIII' plug-in. Using the default Hornet setting (as shown ie: max. peak @ -6dBFS and the reference setting at -18dB) I THOUGHT that hitting 0 db VU with this software would give me an RMS reading of -18dBFS in Logic (approx. around -12 dBFS peak?) however, looking at the meters in Logic, this doesn't seem to be the case. Any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong here??
  4. Hi there! I realise I'm ressurecting an old thread here Mr C but did you ever find your working method & a way forward here? I ask because I now feel as though I am in exactly the same boat as you were way back when here! (I tried PM'ing you but it didn't work hence me replying to this post). I look forward to hearing from you!
  5. OK, thanks David! Armed with this knowledge, now you've provided the principle behind it I shall go forth & try to find a way of incorporating this concept into my workflow. CHEERS!
  6. Hi, like I say, bit late to the Logic X party this end (just made the switch from Logic Pro 9). I haven't had much time to dedicate to the Logic X cause so far (I only installed it at the w/e) but, so far, first impressions are good, However, I have a couple of head scratchers I need resolving namely: - I can't read stuff in the Inspector region as that new skin background charcoal grey (almost black in fact) in LPX just seems WAY too dark the way it's playing back on my current monitor (a SHARP 40" TV). From what I'm used to in Logic 9 (and from what I've seen in a couple of YT tutorials), I know stuff in this area of the Logic window should read: 'Setting'; 'Audio FX'; 'Send' for example but the black lettering on the (almost!) black backdrop is REALLY difficult to make out = WEIRD! ('I should have gone to SpecSavers!' I have tried adjusting the Brightness, Contrast & Colour settings on said (TV) monitor but it really hasn't made that much difference - still really hard to see regardless. Maybe I just need to accept that this BIG screen TV mnitor isn't working (was fine with LP9!) and regrettably go back to using a conventional (smaller!) dedicated computer monitor screen as apposed to a TV screen. If this is the case, I'll sure miss working on a big screen!) - On a more operational Logic X level, the other thing that's confusing me on first impression this end is the drop down arrows on (some, not all) Logic Track Presets I have tried so far (eg: 'Vox' & 'Electric Guitar presets'). What are they all about then? This obviously wasn't how presets would populate a track in Logic 9 and, as such, I need a bit of help as to how to get my head around this new style & way of working. For example: Take the 'Vintage Vocal' preset setting. When I call this one up in my project and click on the white arrow on the Track lane, it's giving me a further three lanes of tracks below this. I'm not really getting this concept as I'm used to working with just the one effected track preset you get with Logic Pro 9. (Yeah, yeah ... I know, 'DON'T USE PRESETS!' but hey, some folks have gotta start somewhere and they work for me, well, up until now that is!) Any help on both the above 'issues' appreciated. CHEERS!
  7. Can anyone explain to me why my mouse pointer keeps turning into a back arrow (a backward arrow from a vertical line symbol) .... and how to resolve this?
  8. Thanks for listening! Over & out people ..... https://soundcloud.com/user-896660726/halfway-to-nowhere
  9. Hey! Cheers Mike. That was really kind of you to put your thoughts down and I REALLY appreciate it! Wise words. THANKS SO MUCH
  10. Hi! I've been at this recording/mixing lark for some considerable time now. I would like to think I'm getting better but ... who knows?!! As I say, I would really appreciate some feedback (constructive or otherwise!) on this particular mix as it's the culmination of some considerable sonic efforts this end & I really need to know if I've 'got it right' (or not!) I'm trying to make the leap from 'demo recordings' to recordings I'm happy to ..... ??? 'release' commercially I guess. This song in question is 3 minutes in duration. Any thoughts/advice/input would be greatly appreciated! https://soundcloud.com/user-896660726/blue-day-reimagined
  11. Thanks for the info Jim! Seems Apple cocked up with this WaveBurner software then! I'm perhaps reading too much into this for my needs. I'm talking of a 'physical' release of a max. of say 50 CDs just for friends and family (maybe SELL the odd one at a gig even!) then some kind of web presence/host enabling the download of said album-like collection of songs . (Anyone still even listen to 'albums' anymore in this pick'n'mix post-modern age we find ourselves living in??!) For the latter option here I will need to look into something like ....? I dunno, 'Bandcamp'? 'CD Baby'? So ... instead of spending anymore money (I've had a fair bit of computer-related expense of late eg: new interface; some software so need to reign things in a bit on that front!) I'm now thinking/hoping I can just do some kind of 'cottage industry' type thing and burn off physical copies here at home just as and when required and just using Logic X to compile said album ie: one Logic project featuring one BIG track with all the songs in the right running order sequenced with 'Markers' for where one track ends and another starts (I might even cross-fade some songs although I'm getting ahead of myself here now!) Once I have said songs sequenced it should hopefully just be a case of saving said 'album track' out to my CD burner right?? (I use an old version of Toast version 8 ... I think!) In fact, thinking out loud here, could I not just dump all the individual songs into Toast and just burn my album from there?? (That said, there's always a catch! The times I have used this Toast software since moving up from OS:Mountain Lion to El Capitan is making me think that it's ANOTHER one of those older software packages that really doesn't work so great with El Capitan! I really hate that whole computer incompatibility thing - it's a royal pain in the A!) Again, any further thoughts in light of what I've just written here would be much appreciated! There must be LOADS of Logical folks out there/on here who've done a similar thing namely: self-released an independent LP ... on a shoestring budget! Just to recap, the songs I am looking to put together in album form are pre-mastered so I'm not requiring 3rd-party sequencing/formatting software that doubles up as a mastering suite as that side of things has already been taken care of. This being the case, surely I can do what I need to do all in Logic X then? Thoughts please ....
  12. Hi! I have a number of pre-mastered songs from my past and am now toying with the idea of possibly releasing some sort of 'Greatest (non!) Hits' compilation album - maybe doing some kind of limited run (my Mum, my Dad and my dog!). Not wanting to be seen to be running before I can walk though, if I'm to pull this off, I first need to sequence/format said tracks. I'm sure there's loads of folks on here who have done such a thing right? Did you just create a new project in Logic and drop all the songs into it or ... what? I do have this WaveBurner software that came bundled with Logic Pro 9 but, to be completely honest, I've never felt there's been a reason to open it ... until now? Is this WaveBurner program the right kind of software to use & if so, what are you supposed to do with it? Like I say, this is just 'an idea' at this stage but ANY info (eg: advice/insights/links/recommendation/etc.) on how best to go about putting together then self-releasing an LP would be greatly appreciated as I have no relevant experience in this field!
