  1. It was working fine for me for a week or so, now periodically my Duet is crashing, it disconnects and causes the apple display to turn off, so I have to unplug and plug back in the display and audio interface. I'm not sure what the problem is, if the apogee drivers are just not working with M1 or if it's the old apple display which works faultlessly otherwise
  2. I got a deal on the Samsung SSD Touch T7 1TB 3.2 for samples and projects, will run logic and plugins on mac mini system SSD and have another HDD for back up. Anyone thinking of getting the Samsung Touch T7 there are a lot of complaints about the drivers to set up the touch technology, I uninstalled it in the end as dont need the touch PW technology and the drive is working fine, about 700-750MB read and write per second
  3. If I install the beta version of native access on my new M1 mac-mini and install all my Native Instruments plugins now will I have to uninstall all said plugins and native access and reinstall everything once apple silicon is fully supported by NI? I haven't used a beta version of a plugin before so how does it work? See the NI article link below https://support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/360014683497 Any Native Instruments users with a new apple M1 machine I would be interested to know what you are doing. Thanks
  4. The above worked if anyone is using the old apple display with a new mac and an old firewire audio interface
  5. Hi This has been talked about on here a lot but I just want to know in simple terms, what is the best way to set up drives on a new mac-mini M1 in terms of performance? If it helps, I do use NI Kontakt regularly so a fair bit of sample library action in every project, no live tracking, no active hardware currently running, working in the box with midi keyboard on Logic Pro, (push2 with ableton). Here are the two options I'm considering based on what I've read System HD (512GB) - Logic/ableton apps + any third party plugins, VSTs/AUs etc 1 x external SSD 1TB - All samples and sample libraries + User library (except projects?) 1 x external SSD 1TB - Project files 1 x large HDD for back-up OR System HD (512GB) - Logic/ableton apps + any third party plugins, VSTs/AUs etc 1 x external SSD 2TB - All samples/sample libraries/user library/projects 1 x large HDD for back-up I will double the size of the external SSDs if I can afford it and maybe a second HDD at some point to have 2 back-ups. Thanks
  6. One suggestion I found on the pro-tools expert site was to get 2 adaptors (dongle into another dongle) Apple Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter Apple Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 USB-C adaptor Interestingly I've had to order one of these already to connect the mac-mini to my old apple thunderbolt display... He goes on to say that if you have one of these displays you can use the firewire 800 in the back and run the audio interface out of the display, which I hadn't even thought of. So when my adapter turns up I'm going to try this solution.
  7. Hi, I've upgraded to MAc Mini M1, I was using my apogee duet one (the old silver duet...), which has firewire 800 which went straight into my old macbook pro mid 2012, no adapter necessary and not a single issue. Is there an adapter that would connect firewire 800 to any of the ports on the new mac-mini 2020, according to apple terminology these include 2 x thunderbolt USB 4.0 (Type C?) 2 x type-A (which I think is the same as USB 2.0/3.0?),1 x HDMI and 1 x ethernet. I spoke to 2 apple employees because on the apple website there is a thunderbolt to firewire adaptor, but this does not look compatible and it only states its compatibility up to mac mini 2014, so I'm pretty sure apple were giving me bad advice, hence why i am here https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/MD464ZM/A/thunderbolt-to-firewire-adapter?afid=p238%7CsR0RPnOD5-dc_mtid_187079nc38483_pcrid_432493523477_pgrid_103369707551_&cid=aos-uk-kwgo-pla-btb--slid---product-MD464ZM/A-UK If I cant get the right adapter I will need to update my audio interface, if so please recommend something compatible under £200, at this point I am only working in the box, using my Apogee duet and monitors and occasionally connecting a mic. But I'd like to keep the old duet if possible as it has been reliable and it's all i need. Thanks
  8. Go for the entry level mac-mini at £699, you wont do much better than that i doubt. I went for mac mini but upgraded to 16gb memory and 512GB storage which brought the price up.
  9. Thanks this is encouraging news, I guess the best thing is to keep monitoring the updates from third parties, hopefully should be able to upgrade very soon
  10. Thanks very helpful, have any third parties said when they think they will support M1? I think I will wait till then but was hoping to upgrade before January
  11. Hello, This question may have been covered before so please redirect me if so, essentially there are two issues here that are linked and I imagine there are different points of view - would love to hear from someone that really knows Apple Macs. I have a MacBook Pro mid 2012, 16gb ram, crucial ssd 512gb, running Catalina. I’ve had good mileage from it but want to upgrade soon. I have LPX and Ableton Live installed on my HD and all my projects, third party Plugins and all my samples on the HD (very old projects are stored on an external HD). I have very little else on my HD except a few documents here and there. Firstly, which MacBook Pro is worth buying? I would like a faster machine, I’ve heard different opinions about whether the new mbps are actually faster than older Mbp versions with upgraded ram/ssd. Can you really notice the performance of the newer Apple processors? Which year is worth upgrading to and are there pitfuls? I own LPX, ableton live and other third party plugins, but do have a few cracked bits which people shared with me a long time ago that I still have installed- this isn’t crucial I can get rid of them but heard newer macs don’t like them, however my understanding is that it’s the OSX not the machines and you can change the privacy and security settings to allow apps from third parties? Secondly, what is the most efficient way of storing my projects? It seems the best thing is to keep the applications on the HD but maybe transfer all the projects and samples to a fast external HD/or SSD? I’ve enjoyed having all my projects and samples etc on my hd because I don’t need an external disc to work, this is better for flexibility, accessibility etc. I’ve also had external HDs quit so it seems more unreliable - maybe I just need a higher end one? Having more space on my HD would also then in theory help my laptop work faster as they generally perform much better with more space. basically I’d like to not worry about my cpu maxing out all the time, but also have a reliable set up. I don’t Necessarily need the latest Mac but also don’t want a machine that is going to age, so I’m trying to find the right balance. This is a bit of a long post I’m aware, but it’s an important one. Ultimately I respect the opinion of the members on this forum for questions like this, than elsewhere online, I’ve learnt a lot reading LPH over the years. Many thanks in advance for your time
  12. Hi all, I need to change my apple ID password, I've heard if you change your apple ID it can affect some apps purchased through the apple store (such as LPX). Does anyone know if this will affect Logic in anyway?Remove it from my purchased apps? Require me to re-download or anything I need to be aware of? Many thanks for any info in advance
