  1. Thanks guys. How do I get a peak reading of the WHOLE audio region though without having to play through the entire file (the loudest peak in the file)? David, is this what you mentioned I could do from the File editor?
  2. So no way to match one region to another automatically using the Normalise function?
  3. Is there any way in Logic or using a 3rd party plug-in/app to monitor how much CPU usage each plug-in is using in a project?
  4. But then how do I normalise all those transients? Will that chop the actual region up (in which case I can Use the Normalise Gain function as normal) or will it just place markers on each of the transients In the File Editor? In which case the Normalise Gain function won’t work?
  5. Thanks David. But I’m looking to level out all vocal blobs automatically in relation to one another to reduce level differences (instead of using a compressor). Not just gain up all the blobs. The ways you explained above sound like they are just for turning the gain up on the whole file/selection of blobs? Also, I tried option 2 and the “Change gain” in the functions menu is greyed out. Not sure way as I have made a selection In the File editor
  6. Ok thanks. Is it possible to make gain changes to audio blobs in the audio editor so they are reflected in all copies of the region. Or can you only do this with clip gain? ie is it possible to utilise Logics Transient Markers to automatically normalise all audio blobs so you don’t have to do volume automation on vocals etc?
  7. Ps, I take it this is correct also?; https://discussions.apple.com/thread/157535?start=0&tstart=0
  8. Thanks guys; Yes, I checked the VCA type fader (one with no meter) and its set to default 0db. I am bouncing to 24bit in most cases (see no particular reason to bounce to 16bit unless to save file space?). Its a club track (intended for big systems) so it might be worth dithering it in the long run then if there are no drawbacks to doing this?
  9. Thanks David; so what exactly is the significance of the meters & the “red” on the channel strips. Is it just an aesthetic carried over from analog?
  10. Actually, most of my faders are usually peaking at around the -10 mark. One fader though (usually the kick) always ends up getting whacked up past 0 as the mix comes along.
  11. Yes: turn the level down after the Waves plug-ins. Since Logic is operating in 32 bit floating point, it's not necessary to bring all your channels down (which as you mentioned would require you readjust thresholds in plug-ins that are located after the gain change operation). So just turn down the fader on your Stereo Out channel strip. Thanks David. So the distortion I'm hearing in the final bounce (highlighted in this post; viewtopic.php?f=10&t=124472&p=636085#p636085) has nothing to do with any of my mixer channels running hot? (more specifically it is my kick drum channel that i kept turning up in the mix and is now clipping). ie, are you saying clipping and going above 0db on your mixer channels, doesn't have to be worried about?
  12. Would this final bounce checklist sound about right then? LOGIC: -Set mastering plugins to highest bit-depth if available (this wasn’t discussed - is it relevant to this topic?) Logic Bounce Settings: -Select 32bit float -Apply dithering -Normalisation off -Bounce to Wav & test in iTunes before converting to mp3 iTUNES: -Check iTunes settings are all off & flat (EQ, normalisation, etc) HARDWARE: -Make sure master & slave is correctly setup (if serval devices are being used) -Make sure sample rates match: OS system, Logic, bounced file, soundcard -Make sure soundcard volume is not overdriving
  13. Thanks Eric; Apologies, I am still trying to understand a lot of the terminology here and am reading up. So are you saying I should be bouncing the final mastered track to 32bit float in all circumstances (clipping or not). Would this quality translate to streaming?
  14. Thanks lagerfeldt, I checked iTunes & it’s set to “Flat” - no EQ going on, and Soundcheck in not switched on. Sound Enhancer is Off also. Which Playback volume are you referring to? The main iTunes volume next to the player controls, or the “Preamp” volume on the Equaliser? I’ve been testing playback through the mac only, so no other playback device is in the chain. I should note here also that I tested the track on Quicktime and got the same distortion. Should I be applying dithering on the final mastering export and if so which option should I use? (1,2 or 3) I actually chose the MP3 conversion option when bouncing from logic as I figured it is the same as converting to mp3 in itunes? I require the final filetype to be mp3 for streaming. Will this distortion problem always ensue then if the final file required, is mp3? The main issue here might be the quality of the filetype then by the sound of things.
  15. Hi triplets; But some pro masters are clipped (as seen in above example - 'Au Seve'), and some pro masters seem slightly distorted on the kick to get max volume out of the master. I actually have 2 x L3 ultra maximisers (limiters) on the master chain at the moment to boost the volume. This plugin seems to provide volume without even bringing the threshold down.
