  1. Thanks so much for your reply! Your info was easy to follow and helped give me a perspective on the issues that were giving me problems. I see now that it's probably get off my lazy butt and finish the template as that will make future work easier, lol! Also, your information about patches is going to save me a lot of time in bringing some of my older projects into a state that conforms with the rest of this work. Thanks again for your post. And, as always, thanks to this forum in general!
  2. Greetings! I'm sure I'll kick myself but I have searched a great deal and cannot find this answer. I am trying to set up a project that will use orchestral samples, which is somewhat new to me. I created a project and loaded some east west symphony orchestra samples. I then selected Babylon waves art conductor articulations for each instrument. I wanted to see if this project might also serve as a useful template, so I tried importing that session data into another project to see if my set up was good. The channels and plug-ins came in fine but none of the articulation sets loaded. I did not see this option in the dialogue box the pub tap when I imported the session data. Is there a way to import the articulation sets as well? Thanks in advance for any information you can offer.
  3. Have I mentioned lately that I love this forum? Atlas007, angelonyc, sorry to not respond sooner -- I was out most of the day. But Score Sets looks like it may be the solution I'm looking for. I'll have to do more reading, but I feel like I'm headed in the right direction. angelonyc. thanks so much for sharing your score. It's very inspiring to me. If I can even get in the neighborhood of something like that, I'll be pleased. Once again, thank you both for your kind help!
  4. I'm dealing with an aspect of Logic Pro I haven't previously faced. I am writing a piece meant for several orchestra-type instruments -- woodwind, brass, percussion and strings, mostly. I am working with EWQL Symphony Gold. My primary target is audio but I'm trying to keep proper scoring in mind as that might come up later. I know that most orchestral percussion is written on a single line of a percussion staff (at least I think). But the library requires me to have a track for each instrument, with their Play plugin. So I am trying ti find out the best, most efficient way to create this effect. From my research, I thought it might have to do with drum mapping, but Apple's documentation says something about "A mapped instrument is particularly useful for drum instruments or any drum-mode MIDI device.," which doesn't seem to apply in this case. I know Logic is used in a variety of scoring scenarios. I really hope someone can put me on the right path! Thanks.
  5. Thank you both so much! fuzzfilth, telling me that distinction just saved me a lot of future time and frustration! David, MIDI FX Freeze is awesome! I'd heard the name but didn't know what it was. I tried it out just a few minutes ago and it let me get exactly what I wanted. This board is super helpful.
  6. I suspect this may be embarrassingly simple but it's new to me. Normally, I'll write music out or use my MIDI keyboard but, lately, I have been playing around with some generative apps. I got this thing, Riffer, that's kind of cute -- tries to generate melody lines. Thought I'd put it on a track, loop it, make a take folder, and try to edit something together. Put Riffer into the channel's MIDI FX slot and put Retro Synth into the Instrument slot. No other major changes. Played the song a few times so I could tweak Riffer's settings. Set a count in, armed the track and hit record. I could hear Retro Synth but nothing records. BUT, while I was Googling the issue, I decided to just lay something down with my keyboard so I had something to show for my time. I duplicated the track. First I tried to record in the same way again. No go. But then I disabled Riffer and played my keyboard, it recorded just fine! It seems odd to me. Retro Synth is the last signal point. I figured anything that triggered the synth meant the synth could be recorded. But, as I said, I have really not worked with MIDI FX much at all up to now. And I'm anxious to learn early on, rather than just wander around. So I'd appreciate any insight into getting the desired result. Thanks!
  7. Thank you, David! The upgrade seemed to fix the issue. I thought I had upgraded -- Get Info said the new version. But I was beginning to fear I might have to reinstall so I opened App Store and it showed a partial download and "Resume." I finished the process and was able to create a new file that behaved as expected. Note to all: Double-check those downloads!
  8. Thank you, David! I'll check on both of these this evening and report back.
  9. Greetings, folks! I am not finding an answer to this. I rarely ever use count-in but I've been trying on this project. I turned on count-in and metronome, and set it to two bars. I armed the track and hit record, and recorded a few measures, Then, when I went back to the beginning, I found the first two bars I recorded were silent! Even when I turned count in and metronome off. I tried it several times. Reboted Logic. Rebooted the machine. Opened a new, blank file with no plugins, and only one, stock Logic instrument. Same behavior. I checked Apple's docs and this does not seem the feature's intent. I found one interesting thing on the new test -- If I open the piano roll and click on an affected note, it does sound! It also sounds if I drag it. But it won't make a sound during normal playback, even when count-in and metronome are now turned off. If someone can help me understand and fix this, I'd be humbly grateful. Thanks!
  10. Help please! I’ve only ever made a few loops and they were neat and easy to edit. However, for my current project I needed some foot stomps, and a kind soul posted an public domain clip I liked. But it doesn’t fit my tempo and there are an uneven number of beats. I thought maybe the Smart Tempo feature might do the trick, and I was able to line the beats up pretty well. But when I tried to shorten the region and then drag it as loops, the beats seemed off again. I thought I’d try splitting off the final beats and deleting the new region. I hoped to draw out the region enough that the region would end at the end of a measure and then loop it. But when I drew the original region out, the old notes were still there (I never knew!). Anyway, just trying to find the best practice to get this done. Should I edit the extraneous beats and THEN apply Smart Tempo? Can I just export that region with the Smart Tempo edits and then edit to length? Maybe convert to an Apple Loop and see if Logic would figure this out better than I can? If it helps, I’ll try to attach an image of the sample against the ruler so you can see how it lines up.
  11. Well, here it stands for me. While I was going through the various import methods, I was able to pick off a couple of instruments that had a SoundFont component. Those appeared in my popup menu. Encouraged, I tried the brute force method of importing all the WAVs and creating a new instrument. Those showed as well. Dragging into folders, which would be quicker, still seems not to work. But I'm now suspecting some sort of system-level problem, not something with Logic Pro. So I'll examine that when I get a chance. At least I can use my samples. thanks to Atlas007 for your suggestions, and a reminder that sometimes Logic provides half a dozen ways to perform ket functions!
  12. Thanks, I may have been too literal minded. Will give it a shot and report back, hopefully, tomorrow!
  13. Thank you, Atlas007. Steps 1 and 2 in my troubleshooting list were specifically drawn from the instruments manual -- especially the section on where the sampler instruments needed to be, to be visible in the EXS24 menu. While I also read the documentation at your first link, it didn't seem to apply in this situation since these are .exs files, not SoundFont2, SampleCell, DLS, Gigasampler, etc. I very much appreciate your suggestions and the handy links.
  14. Good luck to you with this one, Struan! I do want to emphasize, though, a key difference. In my case, it's the sample instruments that don't appear -- in the EXS menu. Since I can't select them, I have no way to even manually direct the sampler to the samples. Heck, I'd be happy to even get that for right now! Anyway, just wanted to express my issue a little more clearly, just in case. Thanks.
  15. Sorry to bump an old thread but this is really getting to me. Here are some of the steps I have taken since the previous post: 1. Stemming from this thread (http://www.logicprohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=102976), I made sure my third party sampler instruments were in user/Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments. 2. I tried Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments too (I did not have an EXS Factory Samples folder -- all samples were here). 3. Since I keep my samples on an external drive, connected via Ethernet, I made sure EXS options were set to scan all drives. 4. I've created a test project and set it to store all EXS info with the project. 5. Run Disk Utility on my main HD and the external drive -- no problems 6. Plenty of refreshing menus, using fresh EXS instances, restarting LPX, restarting my computer. 7. Following Apple's general troubleshooting guide for LPX (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT200260) up to, and including, reinstalling LPX. 8.Checked a random selection of the actual WAV files to make sure they are working. I don't know enough about the actual instrument files to meaningfully examine them. 9. However, I did try an experiment: I took the ESX instrument of some drum machine hits, and tried to import that into Ultrabeat. I could use the individual sounds but not the instruments. ...and probably more, but that's what I recall right now. Still the same result. The original sample instruments, that came with LPX, play fine. The added ones do not -- they don't even appear in the menu. These samples are commercial ones, purchased through a few well known companies, so I hold some hope they are not all corrupted in similar fashions, so I'm focusing on my end as the problem. I've done a lot of reading and searching. I'm not a total n00b, and I have some technical knowledge. I feel that it's one of things where I missed something obvious. So, I'm hoping somebody here can steer me in the right direction. Thanks!
