  1. Thanks for the replies! A combination of EXS 24 an just audio files dragged and manipulated individually
  2. Hi all, I am getting a new Mac Mini and want to start being more organized with my samples. I have a basic question. If I were to keep all of my samples on an external hard drive and then load a few of them in to anew Logic session. Would their be a significant lag when playing them back in Logic? Or are they in effect loaded in to that session permanently? For instance if the external drive were to fail hypothetically would the session on my main startup disk still load all the files that were originally sourced from the external?
  3. All of a sudden I can't open projects that contain EastWest's "Play" plugin. I tried updating Play to the most recent version, but I am getting the errors below. It's worth noting I had some issues with other plugins (Auotune also stopped working temporarily), but now everything but Play seems to working fine. Thanks in advance! p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px 'Helvetica Neue'; color: #454545} p.p2 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px 'Helvetica Neue'; color: #454545; min-height: 14.0px} validating Audio Unit Play by East West: AU Validation Tool Version: 1.6.1a1 Copyright 2003-2013, Apple Inc. 4. Hi I've moved in to a new studio and am attempting to incorporate Logic X. My microphone is running through a pre-amp in to the HD I/O 8X8X8. In Pro Tools 12, the input is 8, and I can record no problem, but I am unable to set that input in Logic even though it is reading the HD Native Card. When I go in to I/O labels no drivers are appearing, so I am wondering if Logic X simply can't communicate with my Pro Tools-centric interface. Any advice?
  5. And to answer your first question, I think since the 6.4 was reflecting a decimal point the "-" was just being obscured
  6. Cool. Let's say I mix the same exact track twice. Neither have anything on the mastering chain. One is hitting at -7 dBFS and the other is hitting at -3 dBFS on the master bus. Will these tracks be processed any differently during the bounce (will the signals be any different)? If I load them in to iTunes will they sound different from one another if they are normalized?
  7. Thank you for the quick reply! I keep reading that the plug ins are designed to perform optimally at that -18 dBFS level. Maybe this is BS?
  8. Gain staging is something I've never fully understood. I've read tons of old posts on this site and watched many youtube videos, but I'm looking to get some clarity once and for all. I like to write and do some light mixing simultaneously when I make a track. Each instrument and drum hit has a dedicated channel, and my meters are set to pre-fader so that as I toggle through my samples in the EXS24 I can immediately see the level of that individual sound. I leave all of the channel faders at 0. I'm aware that -18 dBFS is the ideal level in the digital realm for a sound BEFORE it enters the plug in chain (compressors, EQs, etc). Here are the questions that I still have... 1. If I load up a particular kick sample from a sample pack in to EXS24 and it reads as +6.4 what does that actually mean? The stock Logic RMS meter is reading it at -6.4 and it doesn't seem to be clipping. The positive value is confusing me. 2. Am I correct to adjust the output level in the EXS24 to bring the level of that kick drum to -18? When I bring it down to -18, the meter reads it at -18 and so does the RMS meter that I put on the channel strip. 3. What is the point of having a gain plug in or SSL Channel plug in first up on the chain if I can just adjust the level in the EXS24 sampler? 4. When a snare is introduced to the mix and is also hitting at -18 dBFS (using the same method of adjusting the output in EXS24), I notice that the master bus is hitting at -12. As I continue to add elements, this level should stay within -3 and -6 correct? 5. If I want to add a compressor and then some Decapitator to the kick should I continue to adjust the output of the plug ins so that the compressed sound is entering the Decapitator plug in at -18 dBFS? I have done a ton of reading in the past few days and just want to confirm that I am on the right track. Let me know if I am missing the point! Thanks in advance!
  9. What is your favorite way to automate pitch in Logic WITHOUT automating the pitch parameter of the source synth? I find that the stock "Pitch Shift" plug in in Logic has a lot of unwanted artifacts. Basically I ask because I want to automate entire sections of the song so that they are all moving up in pitch in the same manner. Any good cheap/ free pitch plug ins out there that you recommend?
  10. I just bought a pair of fairly high end monitors after years of using cheaper ones. The first thing I noticed when working on a new track in Logic is that everything seems very quiet, could a setting have been changed? I don't have an SPL meter, but I can't imagine why it would be quieter. Maybe it's perception, but if anyone can offer some insights it would be greatly appreciated.
  11. I'm editing a DJ set in Logic 9 and I was wondering what the best way to stretch ENTIRE songs is a. without changing pitch b. with changing pitch. I don't mean flex an entire song, or stretch region to locators because I need more flexibility then that. I know exactly what the original BPM is and exactly what I want to change it to
  12. Yea it makes him sound like a schizophrenic mouse
  13. My goal is to stretch a rap song from 99 BPM to 126 BPM for a dance remix. I've tried flexing it, but it sounds too unnatural so I've decided i'm going to pitch it up a little bit and THEN flex. How do you recommend I accomplish this in Logic Pro 9? Thanks in advance!
  14. Yea flex markers, I selected polyphonic and am trying to export all the slices into EXS 24 without having to manually highlight each marker
  15. Instead of manually selecting 3 at a time is there a way to select all of the transient markers that were detected upon selecting the algorithm at once? Sorry if this has been asked before, I'm on a tight deadline!
