It was user fault. I had the F8R connected to both the Mac via USB and also to the AX-50 via MIDI. So the same signal was duplicated.
Thanks for the suggestion of Snoize's MIDI Monitor.
I found the glitch. The AXON AX-50 is the problem. In the video I've connected the F8R to a monitor. The signal still passes through SUM. Then I disconnect the AX-50 and the F8R no longer passes through to SUM.
Any idea why ?

I have three inputs cabled separately. Only two are being filtered out of the SUM. In the photo you'll see the KeyLab, the KeyStep and the F8R cabled through different macros. The macros are identical. KeyStep and KeyLab are not present at SUM but the F8R still goes through SUM. I've tried plugging the F8R into the other macros as well as a Monitor as dead end but it still goes through SUM.
Is this a bug ?
That made no difference here. Just to make sure we're talking about the correct track that won't mute, it is AUX 85 labelled 005 STEM THRU. You will have to unhide the track to see it in MIXER>TRACKS view.
Update : There are two SBP tracks hidden the hundreds tracks for this project. Neither had inputs but they were in solo safe and sending directly to Stereo Out. I clicked off solo safe and also set output to no output but still that particular AUX track will not mute along with the others that happily mute when another track is soloed.
The template file is fine, doesn't have this problem.
Thanks. It's not in Solo Safe mode, nor are any tracks in the bus chain. The thing that confuses me is this a template I've used for a long time. I just delivered 12 tracks for mastering and one file had this behavior. I've gone through all the bussing and can't find out why this is the only one with the problem. So I chalk it up to ... WTF.
I'll just be aware of this from now on.
Right ! This is very cool and of course I was over-thinking things again. But as I write this, my Environment tweak has mysteriously started to work when the inst. track is not the live track.
Don't ask ... I don't know.
Cheers, R
