  1. THE BEST WAY TO CREATE AN IMPULSE RESPONSE: This technique ONLY works if your staying in the digital domain...... eg: IRing a Lexi 960 or similar that is hooked up over spdif / etc... or (WAVES, Altiverb libraries This Technique WILL NOT yield results in the analog domain....for that you will have to deconvolve and sweep. 1) Record some silent audio.......(in other words nothing) 2) Open "nothing recording" in sample editor.....silence the whole thing. 3) With the pencil-tool draw 1 spike (it has to be just one) 4) Now set-up a digital-reverb on a buss in Logic (set to 100% wet) 5) Place "spike" audio on an audio track 6) Route that tracks output to the Reverb buss. 7) Bounce in real-time the reverberated spike 8) Open the reverberated spike in the sample-editor and chop the the front and rear YOU ARE DONE You now created a perfect 100% impulse-response....completed perfectly cloned....no deconvolution needed...it's done! I work for a major video-game company.........and our Audio-Programmer (a genius) taught me this......(He has a doctorate in synhesis) You see the sine sweeping is neccessary only when IRing in the analog world .....The result of deconvolution is actually a spike.. So the other week I was at a friends place....He has altiverb and IR1 from waves....Their libraries have fantastic famous drum rooms / concert-halls etc...... I spiked it all I'm not kidding...If you don't believe me ( I was-a non-believer myself....) Just research it ...........It's the best kept secret For years I was friggin sine-sweeping digitally hooked-up reverbs....takes forever and the result is not as good as the spike technique.... The Spike technique is 100% acurate.. Go have fun Cheers. SvK
  2. Matchless... Thanx! Not fretless........Jupiter 8 SvK
  3. Pete, Thanx! Actually...those pieces are full monty VSL Strings. Epic Horns (really great horns....) And Opus 1 for woodwinds and percussion. SvK
  4. Javier... It is ALL Vienna VSL ..... SvK Opus1 and Epic Horns will get you started SvK
  5. Thanx man I write this stuff just for myself I grew up on New Order, Depeche Mode, Gary Numan, Cabaret Voltaire, Ultravox, Shrieckback etc, etc.... I'm very focused on Orchestral now....but sooner than later I will have a project where I merge these styles.... This track is overly busy, but it's got a nice feel.....and YES......Writing a good song with a beginning, middle, end in my opinion at least is crucial......Afterall as humans we react to chord changes and melody....all to often in electronica drums and percussion are a crutch.....I try to avoid writing drums at the beginning of a project and really try to establish a chord/song structure FIRST.........then if it sounds good without drums, it will really be great with them. thanx again. SvK
  6. Here ya go, If you like Depeche, Gary Numan....you might like it. Don't try to understand the vocals as I am just belting out random syllables to get a feel for the song. 7. NO you DONT need a buss object to use busses oas inputs on AUXs The manual is missleading on this point. SvK
  8. Have you ever created a buss object....and yelled bloody @@#$% because Buss objects can't have send knobs? You know, what if you want to send the short reverb buss to a tape echo buss just a little.... Well ,,,,you can I will admit my stupidity For years now I thought that for a buss to exist you had to create a buss object..... NOT SOOOO..... busses always exist. EVEN when there aren't any buss objects.... Sounds confusing/abstract huh??? bear with me.... INSTEAD of creating a buss object, create an AUX object......Now set the AUX's input to an unused buss.....let's say it is buss 5 Now go to an audio track and evoke a send knob that sends to buss 5...... Guess what? The signal arrives at the AUX object...Which DOES have send knobs This is also the best way to set up stems... i feel so stupid YEARS jeez SvK
  9. David, Ok ....now if we're talking DFD playback and 150 voices of polyphony hitting the disk ......would journaling then have a massive negative effect? thanx, SvK ps: to disable journalling, do I need to re-initialize the drive? SvK
  10. Hi all, How much does "journalling enabled" affect sample-playback for programms such as Kontakt2 and EXS24? I have dedicated internal sata drives for samples, when I initialised these drives I did select "journalling" Does this affect DFD performance drastically? thanx, SvK
  11. Hi all, My Brain has officially turned into mashed potatoes...... I now have 3 G5's running successfully......The autoload is done except for some woodwinds.... Setup: G5 Master runs Logic 7.2 with 16 VIs of Strings I (violins violas), EXS24s with winds and all IRs G5 Slave A runs Plogue with 16 VIs of Strings 2 (celli basses) G5 Slave B runs Plogue with ALL Epic Horns on Kontakt2 AND All percussion on Kontakt2......AND Akoustic Piano Main G5 has an aggregate device with a Metric Halo ULN-2 and RME 3xADAT (24 channels) Hammerfall card. Both slaves have 1 Hammerfall Lite card each which feed into the RME 3xADAT on MASTER G5 G5 Master has 7 gig RAM G5 Slave A has 4 gig RAM G5 Slave B has 4 gig RAM Metric Halo ULN-2 is master clock with a wordclock cable going OUT of it into RME 3xADAT pci card The slave hammerfalls are synched to ADAT from RME 3xADAT card.. The Autoload for Logic is now complete as well....for EQing the various string /wind / horn / percussion stems I used 1992 Cape Fear AND Basic Instinct as references for EQ and IR's Everthing sounds INCREDIBLY real now...With the VIs having the 4 alternations at all the velocity layers....ESPECIALLY the perf-trills All of this has taken a month........But what an AUTOLOAD it is...... I can't think anymore...I'm fried SvK _________________ I once thought I was wrong, but I was mistaken.
