  1. Thanks, @Atlas007. I’d come to that conclusion a while back myself – Smart Controls for the 8 pots and leave it at that. Seems a waste of my really nice multi-mode setup that used to work more reliably – switching the 8 pots between Smart Controls, panning, EQ, and compressor; and of course moving the faders by banks following track selection; and swapping the buttons below each fader between solo, mute, and record-enable. The Mode Change function seems to have lost full support over the last few Logic releases, though. It’s just too frustrating to contend with anymore. Thank you for the suggestion. The Arturia KeyLab Essential uses a “script” according to a setup video I watched yesterday; I’d assume that’s Lua… maybe that’s a good sign.
  2. I do use the faders and pots on my controller – an M-Audio Axiom Pro 61 – but came here to see if there's anything on the market now that maps reliably and consistently – meaning, I'm not forced to revert to a saved control-surface Prefs file to restore the nice configuration I've created over time. As it is now, it seems like every time, or at least every other time I use Logic, I have to either restore my CS Prefs from a backup (which I automatically save to iCloud every time I quit Logic, thanks to Keyboard Maestro) or manually reset several of the assignments. My recollection is that CS Prefs have always been kinda flaky – or is it just mine? I'm so tired of that hassle and would dearly love a keyboard+control surface that just worked, as we say in AppleLand. What ya got for me?
  3. Thank goodness for this thread... just happened to me. I have a Drummer track. I added a compressor on a synth track and sidechained it to a vocal, and boom... my Drummer got stupid.
  4. Just for thread completeness' sake, it's in Logic Remote now, plus "Toggle Selected Step" has a keyboard shortcut of '.
  5. Yessss! Same same same on pretty much all counts. Yes, we can be Expert Mode bada**es and keep making it work, but it’s a time sink. And I’m right w you on getting into the new workflow. I feel so validated... lol...
  6. Hopped online just now specifically to post a similar inquiry. I'm checking out 49-key models and have almost certainly narrowed down to Arturia Keylab Essential 49 or Novation LaunchKey 49 mkIII. My particular interest is tightness of integration with Logic. Given Novation's LaunchPad support for Live Loops mode – plus the teasing response I got from a Nov rep last Sunday during their Synthesthesia stream when I asked about similar support coming to the LaunchKey line ("we'd sure like to see that "), I'm leaning toward Novation LaunchKey. Over the years I've mapped the heck out of my old M-Audio Axiom Pro 61, but some of the buttons stopped working years ago, and if there's something that will do as much or more right out of the box, I'm interested. In case it's helpful to anyone else, here are a few data points I've collected. Sound On Sound review of the Arturia Essential line: https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/arturia-keylab-essential Arturia page that includes a comparison chart of their KeyStep line – all seem very fun to use: https://www.arturia.com/products/hybrid-synths/keystep-37/overview Here’s how the more expensive KeyLab MkII hooks to Logic: Comparison of the three current launch pads for use with logic:https://9to5mac.com/2021/02/21/what-launchpad-logic-pro/ And finally, if desk size is at issue, here are dimensions and prices for several 49-key models (Inches): Widths Depths Prices 49-key Novation SL mkiii 32.5 11.81 $600 Nektar Panorama 33.25 13 $500 Arturia Keylab mkII 31.2 11.7 $450 Akai MPK249 29 12.25 $400 Novation Launchkey 31.06 10.16 $220 Arturia keylab essential 30.9 9.7 $209 HTH! 7. Hey, David – I’m using the same controller as you in the video, an Axiom Pro 61. I’ve done a bunch of great assignment setup on it... but now it crashes quite often [EDIT: Testing indicates that next track/previous track crashes it. I'm now investigating whether feedback from Logic could be the culprit, though it is set to "None" for both of these commands.] (this might sound like a question I should be asking the manufacturer, but just bear with me for a moment…) It stops sending anything out (including notes) and I have to turn it off and back on. And often when I restart it, sometimes it switches to sending out over USB A instead of over the hypercontrol port. So I’m curious: what settings were/are you using on yours? Are you doing hypercontrol port or normal USB A? Do you have it listed in the Setup window, or not? I'm wondering if not only should I set Hypercontrol to Transport Only mode but bypass that entirely by using the traditional MIDI port rather than USB. Eeesh.... Thanks for any info you can provide, assuming you’re still using this keyboard.
  8. Stoked. But.... which do you think was the issue? I mean, is this feature just dodgy and inconsistent, and so requires something like hitting Record to wake it up? Or was there something specific you saw in my post that you recognize as the actual reason that it started working? The "consistently" part of my topic title is what I'm really after. That's why all the questions even though it started working. I don't want it to be a mystery or a fluke. And am I right to figure I'll need to add a second "dummy" device for my Axiom Pro 61, set its input in Setup... to match my AP61 and edit its bank left/right assignments to the buttons on the AP61? For both dummy devices - a Baby HUI for the MPK Mini and an iControl, say, for the AP61 - should I delete all the assignments that I'm not hijacking in this way? Thanks! (for years and years of good info, btw. thanks.) CK
  9. OK, hitting Record made them show up! And editing the dummy Baby HUI's channel left/right assignments to match what's coming from the MPK Mini now tracks like a charm (like in Shiver's years-old post, I'm choosing to shift by 1 track rather than 8 in each direction - we'll see how I like it). This is cool!!!! I'm assuming that I'd need a dummy control surface for each real one whose bank switches I want reflected.
  10. Hi, folks - I've got both my Axiom Pro 61 (in the studio) and my MPK Mini (in the backpack, whenever that's useful again) set up with bank switching, mode changes between several useful assignments, and so on – but the one thing I can't seem to crack is getting the Control Surface Bars to display. For obvious reasons, this would make the whole fader bank capability way, way more useful and friendly. I've tried the recommendation here to add a dummy control surface -- /viewtopic.php?f=1&t=55301&p=766180&hilit=control+surface+bars#p283282 ...and that worked momentarily but never again. I also tried suggestions from a few other forum posts, like setting the dummy surface's input to match my device's, but that didn't do it; and changing the color assigned to the dummy surface but that didn't do it either. Anything else I should try? Thanks much!
  11. Phew, boy. I was making this much harder than it needed to be. For whatever reason, I got stuck in the mindset that Auto-Assign was the "proper" or somehow better way to go, or something...? But not necessarily. If you're comfortable with the traditional Learn method and the Auto-Assign mapping isn't giving you joy, just turn off Auto-Assign and do your thing. In the case of the Axiom Pro 61/49, at least from what I can tell, all A-A really does for you is map the 8 dials to the first 8 smart controls, and the master fader to the selected track's volume. That's easily done with the Learn method, plus so, so much more beyond those 9 assignments. So – again, unless I'm missing something – turning off Auto-Assign, recreating those 9 basic assignments and then doing whatever else you like is the better way to go. HTH someone else with the same misconception.
  12. 10 years later and still helpful! I hadn't bothered getting my AxPro 61 switching banks in LPX til now. I guess it took a pandemic to make me take the time... Using multiply values of 8/-8, and faking Logic out by adding the iControl made the Control Surface Bars show up for me too. Sweet! Take care, everybody.
  13. Sounds familiar. I started leaving a copy of my cs prefs on my desktop next to an alias for the prefs folder so I could refresh it quickly and easily. I will PM you.
  14. Hey, is this workaround still doing the trick for you? I *kind of* like how the AxPro61 works with Smart Controls, but have been frustrated by the fact that it pretty much stops there. My transport controls stopped working, yada yada. Should I stop using the auto assign/SC and do the old-style Learn routine instead? Or is there another way to make it work like it used to pre-Smart Controls?
  15. Hmm. Not for me. Weird. (I don't have a scroll wheel; referring just to the Stereo Pan width -- can't adjust it like I used to be able to, and I double-checked that I'm for sure in 10.4.7.)
