  1. Sadly, it is my humble opinion that Logic's features and more advanced functions updates are woefully neglected... There are literally hundreds (thousands) of deeply insightful requests that thousands of composers and audio guys have made in the last 4 years, and honestly, very little has happened. This is an across the board issue with Apple and their software development (again, IMO only). I hope that someone at Apple is listening...unless all they care about anymore is iPods, iPads and iPhones... The pros will go elsewhere, and that ain't good...
  2. Doh...just saw the Edit Global Value strip above the keyboard...pushed one button and the MIDI ports work. Unfortunately, the choice is EITHER USB MIDI or physical MIDI ports. Done... Thanks for all the loving, emotional support... )) (I am truly glad this community exists though, without it, I'd be in tech hell...)
  3. Yo yo...howdy y'all...how are you DK? I am glad to find that I'm not the only one with Venom issues... At the moment, I'm completely convinced that the physical MIDI ports in the back don't work. The USB port immediately controls Logic, all is good in that way. I cannot get my MIDI Timepiece to register any activity at the port I've connected the Venom to. I really need the Venom to output MIDI because I'm re-connecting some older MIDI gear, and I want the Venom to the controller for this 'mini-workstation'. Any thoughts? I will kick around some more scenarios, and see what's up... best, Henri SubSonic Digital
  4. Hey Ski...actually, the warning arose just as I was opening the session. And any sort of playback was impeded by two separate 'lost sample' warnings (both ESX instruments that were NOT in the session at all)...very very weird. I re-imported the whole EXS instance and channel strip from a backup, deleted the troublesome one and the issue went away... Maybe something got corrupted somewhere (nah, a corrupted file? couldn't be...) I'm going to pretend that this all didn't happen and proceed as normal. Denial is on my side... How in heck are you? What have you been working on?
  5. With a deeper look, what is actually happening is that Logic is randomly changing EXS's preset (in the one instance I have in this session), but is looking for presets and samples that have nothing to do with this session (or even the random presets that it is choosing on it's own). This is a true first in my world...I think my computer needs a hug.
  6. Did this ever get resolved? Turns out I just got a very strange (and first time) warning message: EXS24 Instrument "05 Full Strings Marcato Lite.exs" Audio File "Silence.wav" not found! Huh? I don't recognize either the sample instrument or the sample name itself. And, this is a weird glitch that came up today since opening the session. These samples don't even belong to the song I'm mixing. I opened a backup, and am not getting this error... Any thoughts on what this might be?
  7. Fantastic! And also, the 'simple' explanation is highly appreciated...bullet points always work for the busy-brained musician...
  8. I've **never** had a problem punching in and out manually using the RECORD TOGGLE key command. Aaaaah, Ski...that's the missing key command...! I've needed this one for a while - thanks!
  9. Really? I've always had it on as a default...who knows, maybe all the odd behavior will go away...? Now if only my shrink could be so efficient...
  10. Thanks for all the replies everyone...that helps a lot...yeah Rekloos: Punch on the Fly only...autopunch is absolutely NOT what you want [unless that's what you want )], because that is an automated, preset (and very precise) punch-in method...
  11. I can only guess that Punch on the Fly must use more buffer or hold more of the session in RAM so that you can do just what you are asking: punch in whenever a vocalist wants to do a quick fix, and avoid that audio hiccup...when you have a minute to experiment, try messing with those two settings. Believe me, I have done hundreds (thousands actually) of vocal sessions on older Studer tape machines (back in the day), and loved how easy and painless it was to monitor, get a great punch and move on...(unless I f***ed up the punch of course) - I've recorded a bunch of hip-hop and ragga...great stuff!
  12. Indeed, I've not enjoyed that issue as well...try this: Have you selected 'Punch on the Fly'..? Go to Options > Audio > check Punch on the Fly also, experiment with Auto Input Monitoring (on and off) I've noticed that after a test punch or two, for some reason, the audio drop-out issue goes away...bizarre? perhaps...
  13. Oh, btw, you can't 'leave' until you've hit 13,000 posts, okay? (that's insane, I've never done 13,000 of anything...let alone post...)
  14. Aaaah, darn...there goes a great teacher and an involved moderator. Definitely a heartfelt thanks! for the generosity and time you've spent in 'conversation' on this forum (and in class). Make some killer music and make us proud with a killer career...we'll be watching: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1124962/ Yeah!
