  1. Sorry, I have not used this forum in a while and forgot to look around first. Just saw the post, "Not enough Thunderbolt 3 ports...help!!", and it answered some of my questions. Comments would still be welcome, though. Thanks!
  2. This is the set up. As you can see, sometimes table space is limited. More recently, I have been using a 4 octave keyboard with full size keys, instead of the iRig.
  3. I am about to get a new Macbook at work (13inch MacBook Pro, with the Intel Core i7 processor (that might be a typo from the tech folks; could it be i5? I am not an expert), 16GB RAM, 512GB storage). So, yay for that! I am the music director for a university dance department, and I use Mainstage as a sound source for music I improvise during classes. I rarely run more than 2 midi instruments and maybe an additional audio channel per patch. I have only a few plugins, using mostly Battery 3. Macbooks have gotten extremely stingy with ports and now we need to buy a docking station so that I can run my small keyboard, midi mixer, USB audio device, etc. The way "it used to be" was great: All I needed was a small usb hub with four ports and I could handle everything. Now with USB 3.0, I need another option, but one that is portable, I hope! So far they have suggested this https://tinyurl.com/byumapr7 and this https://tinyurl.com/yzk9wt59. Am I doomed to having to lug around these biggish boxes? Does anyone have any advice about smaller, efficient docking stations? I cannot change the laptop, but maybe we can rethink the connecting part of this? It needs to be portable and easy to set up, not something that will fall over easily, and something that doesn't take up up a ton of table space would be best. Thanks for any help/advice.
  4. OK, this is embarrassing. My I/O Buffer was set at 32. Reset it to 256 and all is well. Should have checked that out earlier.
  5. Hi, Why is my 3.0.2 update not working correctly? Each time I play a note, either from a MIDI controller or by clicking on the MainStage app keyboard, the note distorts. I have tried creating a new Concert and it still does this. I have played it via the laptop speakers, the audio output and a USB interface; same result. Not sure what to do. Is this happening to anyone else? It distorts using the Logic Instruments (I have Logic 9.1.8, if that matters) as well as plug-ins and renders the application unusable. My Logic 9 does not do this. I have MainStage 3.0.2, Logic 9.1.8, OS 10.9.1, MacBook Pro 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5. Thanks in advance! John P.S. I should add that I upgraded to MS 3.0.2 in December, 2013, but didn't open it until now. I have a project coming up that I want to use it for, but not in it's current state. Thanks.
  6. Hi, I will be getting a new Macbook Pro tomorrow (the basic 13" model provided by my employer) The advice on this forum repeats that it is best to run the audio portions of Logic from an external drive. Anyone have any hard drive brand/ model recommendations? I would prefer something very small, doesn't need to have a gigantic memory capacity (500gig would probably be plenty, could maybe do with less), and needs to run via bus power. Thanks for your help! John
  7. Hi, I am upgrading to a new laptop through my job. The option I can get is the 13" MacBook Pro. I currently use a 4 year old MacBook with a 7200rpm harddrive, and it easily handles Logic, Mainstage, etc. The new models don't have that type of drive as an option, only 5400. I can always use my portable 7200 external drive to run the audio portion of Logic, but I was just wondering if anyone had thoughts about using the 5400? I'll say up front that I am not an expert or anything, and value the advice I get from this forum. I'll also add that i can't afford the SSD option at this time. Thanks, John
  8. Found this on a past forum. Seems to be the problem. I had 2 folder tracks, which i gather is a track with multiple takes. I deleted one and the problem went away. Interesting. "Posted: Mon May 03, 2010 3:33 pm Post subject: : No sound after moving audio files in the arrange grid. GUYS!!! I think i found a solution/workaround that works here. I'm using many folder tracks in my projects, so after trying to delete track by track to find the problem, i can conclude that logic behaviour is OK if i delete all my folder tracks in my project!!! "
  9. So, if I revert to 9.1.4, will it open the files I have edited in 9.1.5? Probably not, right? Thanks
  10. Thanks for the quick reply Scott and David! Soloing doesn't seem to help, but it was worth a try. John
  11. I have 9.1.5, but it is an Academic version. The problem seems similar to what was addressed in the last upgrade, "Resolves an issue in which Logic might quit unexpectedly when moving audio regions in the Arrange window." I have one particular project I am working on that this happens. The other ones seem fine so far. If I slide a region over, the sound cuts out. If I slide it back to its original position, the sound returns. Reverting to saved puts things back in order if it gets too far gone. This is really odd. Thanks for any advice. John
  12. Hi, I finally got around to getting the Logic 9 upgrade last week. Thanks for the videos. they will be very helpful. Drumjazz
  13. Hi, Can I map an x-y touchpad, from a korg nanopad, in Mainstage 2? I don't see an icon for it, but maybe I could combine 2 knobs or something? I'm not sure how I would set this up, but I'll keep fooling with it, in any case. Thanks.
  14. OK, thanks for that info/idea. I'm also starting to use Ultrabeat in Mainstage, so that be a way to incorporate a melodic sequence. john
  15. Hi, Is it possible to also program a step sequence melody using Ultrabeat note #25 and higher? Is the sequencer relegated to notes up to #25? I havn't found a "transpose" button or anything, so I'm guessing it can't but thought I would ask. Thanks, John
