  1. This is of great interest to me, being able to use the Logic step sequencer to control third party plugs ins is something I've been waiting for. I haven't even upgraded to 10.5 yet, so I can't contribute, but I'll be happy to read what other people learn. Thanks!
  2. What makes you so certain that the disk is fine? I just went through a similar process and I ended up using a third party software to check my disks more thoroughly than Disk Utility, and it turns out that one of them was not, in fact, fine. After having removed that the system is working as it should.
  3. I'd like to thank everyone for the help. I think I have the situation resolved. I began to notice disk spikes on other things than Logic. I would run Kontakt all by itself, and it would show red on the CPU meter. I also have Waves' Grand Rhapsody, and it would barely play at all. I began to look a little deeper into the health of the hard drives in my system, and got some third party software (Drive Dx). That showed that one of the drives was showing some signs of distress, not the OS drive, nor the project write to drive, nor even the samples drive, just a backup one that I had Windows 10 installed on a while back. I pulled that drive, and so far, everything is working as well as it ever had. It's a little early to say, but all the projects and things that hadn't been working prior to this are now working well. Thanks again.
  4. I'd have to get back to you the makes of the SSDs, but they're well known brands. And yeah, I did play around with Logic's settings. I set the buffer to a variety of things, that bought me a little more play time, I set the threads to being 24 from being automatic, and I changed the summing bus to being 32 bit instead of 64 bit. None of that seemed to resolve. When I look at the performance meter, you'll see the three processors working just fine, I'm assuming one for each track. The disk meter is around 5-10% and then all of a sudden it spikes to 100% and that's the end of it. I'll test more this weekend... I'll miss Drummer, but last time I used Logic with just Drummer and one MIDI/VI track it still couldn't do anything. Odd, though, because just a couple months ago I was working on a pretty big project and chugging along just fine. I think I took a Logic update, so maybe that did it, but the fresh install didn't resolve anything. I'll try and get that project playing this weekend, so far I haven't been able to since I don't have all the VIs that were used on it loaded yet. And those were some pretty heavy users, BFD 3, some others. I'm not at all sure what the problem is. But it seems like the "disk too slow" thing has been an affliction that has affected all Logic users at some point or the other. I guess I've been lucky so far, but I can't get a clear handle on what the fix for that ever is, either.
  5. So, rolling back to El Capitan and installing everything fresh doesn't help. I tried disconnecting my audio interface and playing my simple track through the built in audio outputs, same situation. I get about a minute into a simple track of one audio bass guitar, a Drummer track, and a MIDI instrument running Alchemy. I put the project file on two different drives, both of them solid state, neither of those the OS drive (also solid state). Same situation. I have been running metering to see my CPU and memory usage, nothing seems all that out of the ordinary there. I repaired permissions, since I can do that on El Capitan again, no luck. I wonder if rolling back to a previous version of Logic Pro X would help. But I don't have that available easily. I had given some thought to buying a different audio interface, but it doesn't give me an issues in any other capacity, so I'm skeptical to spend the money. I wonder if my logic board might be going out, but this is the only app that has any issues. I'm downloading Cubase now, I'll use that for a bit and see if I have poor performance with it. Any other ideas would be appreciated, but it seems like Logic might just not be functional on my machine anymore. I certainly don't feel like I could compose with it as it is, nothing kills inspiration like the software coming to a screeching halt for no reason.
  6. I haven't liked a single thing that Apple has done since Steve Jobs died. What a terrible company they've become. I basically have one last hope for them, that the new Mac Pro is at all affordable, genuinely "modular" like they claim it will be, and isn't awful. Long shot. Thanks for the advice. Too bad, I had a long run with Logic, and I really like Drummer, but what can you do. The "disk too slow" message has been a plague on Logic since forever, I guess it'll never be resolved.
  7. Yeah, moving to Sierra was a mistake. Moving back to El Capitan will be a huge hassle, but I can, and you are right, I don't remember having this problem when I used that.
  8. So, I'm recording a track to a simple project, at the moment, it's one Drummer track, one MIDI track with Alchemy on it, and one audio track. I can't get it to stop giving me the "Disk too slow" although now it's saying "prepare" which is at least new. I'm using a 2011 12 core Mac Pro, with Sierra (maybe that's the problem), Logic 10.3.1, 32 GB of RAM, my OS is on a PCIe slot solid state drive and I'm recording to another solid state drive housed internally on the SATA bus. I've trashed the Logic .plist, my CPU doesn't seem to be slammed, I mean I don't know what to try. I'm pretty good with computers since I work in IT and I'm pretty much at a loss with this software. I'm using an old Focusrite Pro 10 Firewire interface. Any thoughts? Is this software just not usable anymore? It's basically the one thing keeping me on the Mac platform and if this software doesn't allow me to do such a simple thing as this then I guess it's all just a wash. Thanks for any advice you have.
  9. That's it! I thought there was some reason like that. Thanks for the prompt assist, brother!
  10. Hi all, I haven't had to do this for a while. I'm using Logic 9.1.8, 64 bit, on a project with MIDI, audio and a .mov in it as well. I no longer can see how to export this as an .mov. Is it because there is MIDI in there, or am I just missing it? I never did before. I'm on Mountain Lion, the latest version of that. Thanks!
  11. Yes, that did it. It is now installing. Thanks for the help! It'll be good to have ol' Logic back on the laptop. Happy holidays all!
  12. Hey all! Thanks for the help. The name of the app is "Logic Pro 9.0.2". I never changed it that I can recall. Maybe I should drop the "9.0.2"?
  13. Hi all, I am on ISX 10.7.2. I have Logic 9.0.2 installed on the computer, but it won't open because it's too new of an OS. OK. The Apple software updater doesn't see Logic and doesn't update it. So, I went to the Apple site and downloaded Logic 9.1.6 manually and opened it. It tells me that it can't find a copy of Logic in the Applications folder, but that's exactly where Logic 9.0.2 is. Perversely, Waveburner 1.6.2 does open. I am starting to think my copy of Logic on this computer has gone corrupt. Just for the hell of it, I deleted the Logic preferences, that, not surprisingly, didn't change anything. I'm stumped. I really don't want to have to reinstall the thing if I don't have to. Any thoughts?
  14. That's it- the stupid sliders. Thanks for your help, brother. It's not like this is a new interface for me either- I just find the software to be so bad that I tend to just set it and forget it. Thanks!
  15. It does- it's a Focusrite Saffire Pro 10. However, if I turn off the hardware monitoring in it, all that goes away is the treated sound in Logic- the direct sound I can't get rid of. I must be missing something here. All I have going on is a Waves PRS guitar interface running a balanced line into the Saffire Pro. Or maybe the Saffire is just so terrible that I can't avoid it- I'm really sick of this thing. The software with it is just terrible.
