  1. Ableton added comping in Live 11. In my 20 years of using Logic, I've never felt a need to get into scripting. But one workflow I'd love to be able to bring to Logic concerns the library browser - Ableton is great for organising a sample library, I can very quickly add tags, drag into folders, rename and even delete unwanted sample material. Ableton is given a lot of credit for being able to manipulate audio timing using warping, but Logic's flex-time facilitates a nicer workflow imo since I can do it directly in the tracks arrangement.
  2. No kidding! I timed it just before upgrading. 10.7.2 was 12 seconds to launch (still faster than Ableton). 10.7.3 is 4 seconds!
  3. I'm in the process of replacing my older Mac Pro with a new MacBook and it looks like I'll need to retire my firewire MOTU Ultralite unless I want to jump through a whole load of hoops with dongles and unsupported drivers. The only audio input I need is from my bass since I do everything else "in the box". I'm wondering if I'd get away with using an iRig HD2 as the guitar input, and using the MacBook's headphone output as the main stereo output in Logic? I don't need amazing DAC quality, but would like minimal latency. What kind of buffer settings are possible and are there any unforeseen problems I've not considered?
  4. What's the verdict on the new UI in 10.7? I haven't tried Logic 10.7 yet as I'm stuck with 10.5.1 on my patched Mac Pro 2008. I'm budgeting for a new M1 machine and wondering if I should invest in an external retina-capable screen to replace my current 2560x1440 external display? Or does the new UI look okay on a non-retina screen once you get used to it?
  5. The EXS24 Relinker app isn't working for me. Following the help pages, when I drag in an exs file I expect to see a list of the reference audio files, but for me it remains empty. Only the titlebar of the app updates to reflect the name of the exs file. Following the other instruction for relinking multiple exs files, I first drag in the samples folder onto the right icon. Then when I drag two or more exs files onto the left icon, the app crashes "EXS Relinker (s) quit unexpectedly".
  6. Over the years I've amassed quite a collection of EXS24 drum patches, mostly from sample packs such as those by Goldbaby. Now that Drum Machine Designer has detached itself from Ultrabeat, I'm thinking it would be nice to convert these EXS24 patches into Drum Machine Designer patches that map to a Quick Sampler on each pad. Is there a straightforward (read automatic) way to convert these? I realise I can create my own DMD patches by dragging and dropping samples, but it would nice to keep all the information from the EXS24 patches such as choke groups, relative levels, etc.
  7. Unfortunately, on my system at least, the pinch to zoom gestures on the Magic Trackpad work the same way as mouse - centers in on the selection or playhead. I alternate between Logic and Ableton Live and must say I prefer Live's zoom to cursor behaviour. It's consistent with other Mac apps like Preview, iMovie, Photos etc.
  8. In Logic 5 there was a keyboard shortcut (forward-slash I think) that would delete the last recorded pass in cycle mode. Is there an equivalent in the current version of Logic? I'm aware of the Record/Record Repeat, and Discard Last Recording, but they both delete all passes in cycle mode. I used to like leaving Logic in overdub mode and building up drum patterns, using the keyboard shortcut to discard passes that I wanted to have another go at.
