  1. Thanks. I solved this by reopening Logic in Rosetta – which makes no sense because the system has been working fine natively for months without it… but whatever works I guess!
  2. Every time I load the tune I'm currently working on I get an error that says 'An Audio Unit plug-in reported a problem which might cause the system to become unstable. Please quit and restart Logic Pro.' It doesn't say which plugin, or why it's having a problem, or anything. I can see the song completely loaded in the background but I can't so anything with it because the dialog box only has one option. If there were an option to pull the data out of that song and start again I'd happily do it but my only option is quitting. What can I do to retrieve all those hours of work?
  3. Has anyone tried that free Black Friday plugin from Waves? It's called Lo-Fi Spaces. It's v13 so it should work, all my other Waves stuff does now, but it doesn't show up at all. Seems churlish to complain about a free plugin but…
  4. Huh. Well that would be logical but for whatever reason I'm not getting that. Maybe a version mismatch? I am on 10.4.1 and I think I created that channel strip just before I updated… will try making a new one and see what happens.
  5. I want to use a complex set of plugins and settings that I've set up, so I saved it as a Channel Strip Setting from the Stettings button on the Channel Strip. Sure enough, it's on my hard disk as a .cst file. But how do I load it? Logic help happily points me to a 'load settings' button that does not exist – even in Logic Help the illustration shows it does not exist. There are approximately 200,000 rambling YouTube Videos that promise to tell you, but never actually get around to it. Import menu shows any .cst files as grayed out. Drag and drop does nothing. What's the point of a saved file that you can never load?
  6. … anyway – I nailed it in the end by using the info you gave me to track down the prefs in the backup folder for my old Mac and copied them over. Worked a charm!
  7. That was good advice, and I tried it. 1: Killed CS prefs, rebooted. Problem still there. 2: Killed CS prefs, plus all other Logic prefs. Updated Logic to 10.4.1 and updated firmware of keyboard controller and… …the transport control is playing notes again!!
  8. OK, here’s a genuine mystery for you all. I can’t even decide what’s broken: could be a problem with Logic, or could be a glitch with my Komplete Kontrol. Could be both! It’s such a weird one that I’m not sure what’s relevant detail and what’s not but here goes. Recently upgraded to an M1 MacBook Pro. Managed to get everything migrated and working, pretty much. I rely on the transport controls on my NI A61 for most of my start/stop/record commands. They definitely worked for at least 24 hours on the new setup. Then I tried to load an older song to check something out and Logic crashed a few times. Eventually got it loaded but the transport controls had stopped being transport controls. In fact, they’re playing notes! Things I’ve tried: Restarting Logic. Yanking the USB out of the KK to reboot it. Restarting the Mac. Fooling around in Logic’s MIDI prefs. I seem to have got rid of the notes now… although I don’t know how… but still no transport controls. I do have a backup of my previous Mac setup so I could maybe pull the prefs out of that, if I knew where they lived! I’d be very grateful for any tips. This is such an annoying problem!
  9. I know what you mean, but there's a new wave of M[x] MacBook Pros coming out in the coming month and Waves still haven't updated their compatibility progress report. It's been several months now. Plus, for good measure, I just tried to log into their user forum to see if I could find any information and that now appears to be dead too. Doesn't exactly fill one with confidence!
  10. There are some nice free string sounds to be had from Spitfire Audio. Either their Labs stuff or they offer a really nice taster pack if you sign up.
  11. Wow. That's an excellent tip. I wasn't aware of Freeze mode because its relatively tucked away but I've just checked it out and it is perfect for what I want to do, thank you!
  12. Yeah, I get that – but the fact that Waves have had a rolling Fire Sale operating since January makes me worried that they are just going to cash in and bail! I was planning to get an M1 MBP when the 16" screens drop (next month?) but at this point I can't risk it because 90% of my gear won't work.
  13. This is a purely subjective opinion, so you can of course ignore it if you don't agree. And all my production tips come from an arranger's perspective – if you get the basic sounds right, the engineer's job gets a lot easier! It's all about the song - which in your case is good. it's got a great mood and it really works. For me, the string sounds are a little thin though, which you could address by softening the EQ, adding a warmer analog synth behind them , and / or swapping out the sample altogether. Also, and I appreciate that this might feel a bit personal, I think the pitching of the vocal is a shade off here and there. Not a mile – making a low-level duplicate of the track and running it through an autotune plugin ought to pull it back in. Last thing – I think the beat would sit more nicely with the track if you added an analog echo with plenty of Hi Cut on it to make it cook a little more. It'd be worth making those changes, I'd say, because the core idea is sound and the track has a nice vibe. Those small tweaks would be worth it.
