you must have some freaky thin walls, man.
Of course..you -could- play devils advocate here...Tell them you've done as much as you can do deaden the sound coming in and out of your apartment, but you can still hear THEM having sex.
that'll do it.

cheaper option - buy him some ear plugs for when he's sleeping during the day.

Here's another relatively cheap solution:

Scott, this thing costs a lot!
Ouch, it's a DIY. Tennis balls? Interesting. I hope the problem is the vibrations transmitted through the floor.

Matt, what's the price? Do not forget I live in Bulgaria, not in the USA, UK or Canada. |
It is a do-it-yourself project. Here are some instructions:
http://www.dtxpressions.com/platform/
http://www.vdrums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23482
If you have access to large sheets of cheap wood 1/2" (13mm) thick, some tennis balls, and some tools, you can probably put this together for less than the price of a couple nice restaurant meals!

Thanks! I already saw the first one. I like it! But: "and the neighbor still knocking on the ceiling...
I'm not a hard banger.. maybe i should remove some balls since my throne was off the platform..."
Maybe a combination "DIY tennis ball platform and some panels should do the job"

How are your carpentry skills. This isn't that big, so it wouldn't be a big deal to frame another wall out in front of the existing concrete wall. Leave a small air space between, insulate between the studs. If you're any good, set the plates on expansion felt and shove it in place. Two layers of sheetrock, seal it up, float it out. Not a big budget project, but it does solve the problem in a brute force kind of way.

Yeah, but you could use the concept and create your own barrier using 3/4" conduit & Moving/Furniture Blankets (very cheap and effective). The movie industry uses Moving/Furniture Blankets to reduce sounds through doors and windows (they call them sound blankets). I've seen them in use.

Also, for what it's worth. The solid concrete/brick wall transmits all sounds very clearly. I live in an all brick (12" thick) building with neighbors through the walls on each side. The stairwell to the first floor has only sheetrock mounted directly on the brick (no electrical outlets, no plumbing, just a solid wall). I can hear the neighbors talking through that wall. In the rest of my place, there are inside walls built with 2x3 wood studs covered with sheetrock/drywall. The studs are not in contact with the brick wall (and this point is important). There is no insulation between the sheetrock and the brick (and there should be) yet where there is this separation of solids with a space in between I hear NOTHING coming through the walls. If you did not have a radiator along your concrete wall I would have suggested building and inner wall in that manner and stuffing it with fiberglass insulation.

God Fader8, you and I are on the same wavelength here. You posted this while I was trying to compose my post. I wanted to suggest this yesterday but Yamaha mentioned a radiator. It really is the best idea and would be very effective. A big point is to leave at least an inch between the wood studs and the brick wall so no solids are touching.

I have a radiator. Just a minute ago I received an offer for an isolation materials. Looks to me they are very cheap-1 x 2m, 445 mm pyramid thick costs only 9 Euro.

I still think buying him ear plugs is the quickest, easiest and cheapest option!

I made the guy such a suggestion, but he is typical redneck, peasant and hayseed and didn't accepted it as a friendly advice.

I can see how that would be taken as an insult. Did you suggest that he buy ear plugs himself or did you offer to buy some decent, comfortable ones for him? As he sleeps during the day, I would expect that ear plugs and an eye-mask will help him sleep better anyway It certainly used to help me when i worked night shifts.

How about asking if there is a time each day that would be ok for you to play? Maybe ya'll could work out a deal. A compromise may be your least expensive option.

You could get your neighbor evicted, or put in jail. (Plant some dope in his pad). Then find a deaf person to be the new tenant!

Tried many times. He lives with his parents, which are retired and stay at home all day long. No one talks to them, cause they are mean in the guts. Anyway, I think I found a solution. Talked to my friend, who is a sound engineer and uses some of the materials I was offered. I have the money an this weekend I'll go and check what's best. Unfortunately the info on the net is only either in Bulgarian language or Turkish, but on the Turkish site there is info about the frequencies, thickness etc.

Neihbors are just like tubes, they tend to squawk after time. I used to have a similar problem and then I replaced the old neighbors with new ones and it solved it... So you might try replacing the neighbors.

So if they're not accommodating to you, why should you bend over backwards for them? If you seriously dont think the noise you make is loud enough to really annoy someone, and they are just being anal, continue doing it and let them make the complaint to the authorities if they are that bothered
