I'm considering purchasing string samples here: http://www.kirkhunterstudios.com/products.html - anyone have any experience with these?

I'm thinking of buying/downloading the "ALL STRINGS" at $299 . http://www.kirkhunterstudios.com/products_sections.html

If I get the ESX24 version, I won't need an additional "player" with Logic Pro - is that correct?

Thanks for any and all feedback on this.

Best, John Smile

P.S, I was seriously considering the new EWQL "Hollywood Strings", but I'm afraid it would put a strain on my system.

Yes, that is correct.

I just got LA Scoring Strings (L.A.S.S.) and I am thrilled to bits with them..... Pricey but well worth every cent...

Have a listen @

http://www.audiobro.com

Or check out my blog (See my sig) for an example of the solo cello from that set used in "Dance for Cello and 5 Legs" The Cello was played 'live' without any need for post recording editing such as velocities etc... Yes, it is that playable

Cheers..

I just got my L.A.S.S. too... it's amazing!
For some basic strings easy to handle, but for more advanced scoring I'll prob need some time to digg in.

@n6smith I like your Dance for Cello
which cello sample did you use?
my guess: Cello FC Leg LPG Speed P+G Lt_

@Max

I used three different ones but yes, that was one of them.... I'm finding the more I spend time with LASS the more I like it.. It will demand a lot of digging around I admit, to get the most out of it but it will be well worth it I suspect, based on the results I have achieved, so far at least.

@n6smith

Would you mind telling me the other 2 layers?
I'm new to orchestral scores, so I'm trying to learn as much
as possible... Did you use a spiccato layer (for faster attack)?
Btw. I played your tune to a violonist and he couldn't believe
that this was a sampled celli... LASS rocks!

@Max

Sure.. the other two were;

ESP Sus - Just to give a rich expressive smooth playing style without accidentally triggering portamento when needed

Leg LP Fast - This I used for the few very short articulated parts instead of Spiccato which would have probably worked better if I wasn't playing it live and didn't need to worry about fast changes.

I set each of the instruments up on different channels and then used my A-90 (Which has 4 dedicated midi channel output selection buttons) to switch quickly between all three while playing live.

Have to agree.. LASS in pretty incredible.. and the more I use and get used to how to control it.. (The CC control is amazing once you dig around a bit..) the more realistic end results I get it seems.....

I'm currently working on a compete string quartet piece at the moment... Probably be ready in about a week or so...

Sorry to interrupt - I was wondering, how well does LASS work on your systems? I'm aware that my MacBook may have issues with running something that big, but would I in theory be able to run LASS just using the Mac Pro (with more RAM, obviously!)

Many thanks,

Madoc.

@Madoc

It runs just fine on both my 4Gig iMac and my 4Gig MBP. A couple of the 'articulations' can be a little memory hungry of course but in the main it's pretty good and there are always alternative less memory hungry sample sets to load in if you find you are pushing things a little...

The largest project I've worked on so far with LASS has been 17 tracks, 10 of which are LASS and no probs so far..

I can only second that. My SetUp: Mac Pro 10 Gig, 10.6.2, Logic 9.1 running 64 bit
and no issues with LASS even running side by side with memory hogs like Omnisphere and Trilian...

@Nigel
Thanks for your reply. Did you check out the banks made by a LASS user (LASS Support Forum)? The banks contain all articulations and come with a keyswitch script, it's pretty cool...

Looking forward to hearing your new tune!

Max

That's great to hear - thank you both for taking the time out to answer me - I really appreciate it.

Hi all,
I just came to hear of LASS now, and am considering getting it. How do I use this in Logic Pro? Do I need to buy a separate Player (like Kontakt) also to play this, or is this library usable via any of the Logic Instruments?

Pls respond, as I am a liitle confused about this.

regds, Jairam

It works with Kontakt and Kontakt Player. Kontakt Player is free.
