Hi there,
My first post and I'm already getting desperate eh, how awful!
In short, I'm in a lot of a hurry to get a drum track recorded for a deadline of tomorrow morning, and without the time to setup my acoustic kit, mic it up and so on, I figured I would just use my TD-20. That way I wouldn't need half as many takes as well, because I could take out any mishits from the MIDI track before finally playing it back through the module and through a mic'd amp because I've always felt that's the only way to make electric drums sound a little more natural.
So the basic setup is TD-20 -> Saffire Pro 26I/O -> Macbook (Logic) to record the MIDI, then after whatever necessary tweaks are made: Logic->Saffire Pro->TD-20->Mic'd Amp->Saffire Pro->Logic to record the audio.
I don't have much time to alter that plan now, and I'm sure I've got a good take of the drum track sorted already. I'm at the stage of needing to play it back through the module+amp. Now for some reason, this has become vastly more complex than it is doing the same trick with my Juno. To get my Juno to do this, all I did was record MIDI in, switch the wire over to Midi out on the interface and in on the Juno and then hit play. Doing the same on the TD-20 doesn't seem to send any MIDI to the module at all for some reason, aside from the obligatory click track.
I've no doubt I'm missing something blindingly simple, but I'm quickly running out of time so I'd love a hand if anyone can solve this problem for me?
Cheers guys! |

Hi,
the first thing what comes to my mind is: did you set the MIDI channel in your TD20 to the same channel which is sending MIDI out of Logic.
You say you get the click track playing back in your TD20 so check if the MIDI channel you recorded to is sendin MIDI out on the same channel as the click track.
This is just a shot in the dark but might help... ________________________ MacPro 2x2,66 Ghz

Two responses to that: Firstly, treat me as much more of an idiot. I -never- use MIDI for anything. Finale is about my only real experience with MIDI.
So I'm not actually able to answer your question properly, because I don't even know where to begin to find that out... That's not entirely true, I'm able to see it on the click track, just not on the ones I've recorded. It doesn't give me any options like that.
I assume that asking that means that my common sense approach of 'it must come out the same way it went in' isn't applicable here?
This is awfully frustrating. Thanks for your patience! |

Hmmm, ok.
Can you tell me what midi/audiointerface and which version of Logic you have?
It might also be useful if you read the manual of your TD20 how to set it up to recieve MIDI and how to change the MIDI IN channel
The thing about MIDI is : the recieving device must have the same MIDI In channel as the MIDI out channel of the sending MIDI device . ________________________ MacPro 2x2,66 Ghz

I'm using Logic Pro 8 with a Saffire Pro 26 I/O interface.
Thanks for the advice, I'm now checking that out, as I've an awful feeling I might have tampered with it when playing with a TMC-6 trigger to MIDI converter, which could be the cause of all this confusion. Whilst I look it up, can you tell me where to check which channel Logic is sending over? On the click track and any other MIDI's i've used it always says on the left along with the Quantize thing and such. For some reason there's no 'Channel' field on the tracks I've recorded today :S
Thanks again! |

Ok, that Trigger to MIDI converter brings in a new dimension. Definitely check out if that converter also does Midi to Trigger conversion and also if your TD20 is able to recieve Midi . Maybe you can try to connect your TD20 Midi in directly to your Saffire´s Midi out without the converter thing being connected.
To see the midi channel in Logic click on the small two triangles on the left in the inspector. ________________________ MacPro 2x2,66 Ghz
