Hey guys,
I'm new here and would like to know where I should download these plugins so that I can find them in Logic.

I tried downloading from the greenoak.com page and thought I was supposed to drop the *.vst files into the library>.....>vst folder, but I wasn't able to find it in any of the pulldown menus where all the other plugins are on the channel strips in Logic.

Any suggestions? I am new to this so thanks for your patience with asking this here.

Jason

Logic does not support VST files without a converter plug-in. There's a big chance many VSTs are not universal binaries so they won't work with an Intel Mac, anyway. Just download the AU ones.

Hey Kent,
Thanks. Yes I have a brand new intel MBP. So if I am able to download "AU ones", where do they go? How do I find them in Logic?

Good plug-ins have their own installer that takes care of it. Otherwise, drop them into /Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components/.

Also, I would recommend doing a search about this on this forum. Suspect this has been mentioned thousands of times by now. Or use Google and get the same info.

kind of off-topic, but maybe not forever:

http://genaudioinc.com/default.aspx

They have a 30-day free trial of their AstoundStereo expander and they are coming out with an RTAS for later this year. hopefully an AU, as well?

download the trial. It's pretty dang awesome.

you can play sf2 files through the logic sampler. i put mine in a folder i call soundfont samples in the following location:
user/library/application support/logic/soundfont samples

they just show up in EXS24 with all of the other presets. that is a good site too, have gotten some good soundfonts there (love the casio stuff and the analog stuff).

smartelectronix.com has several nice ones but Livecut takes the cake for me. I stopped using it because I felt like a cheater. also check out fabfilter.com even though they're just a demo you might just buy them

LOL, anything above banging the rocks together is 'cheating', Im deeply in love with livecut, its an awesome tool. I record the output of 4/8 bar loops, and then comp the takes together to make a new thing, and run that under the original loop i programmed...and ad some bit crusher Smile

but i digress...

Many thanks for this thread, ive had great fun with plugins sourced from it.

you can open up the AU manager in Logic preferences, scroll down until you see the ones that didn't validate. you can click and validate them in there.

To be blunt, freeware is free for a reason. I went through a phase where I was hunting for freeware like crazy to only be disappointed. I did find one which delivers pro results, and that is the BX_Solo by Brainworx. Go to http://www.brainworx-music.de/ and find the downloads section. Its a stereo imaging plug in that I use preferably over the one logic comes with. For now on though, I'd rather just spend the money for plugs.

That is a very narrow minded view. A lot of free plug-ins are used by software developers as advertising tools. They are not going to advertise by releasing substandard wares now are they? I agree that if you want the variety and consistent high quality then you've got to cough up (some expensive plug-ins are crap too though!), but hunt around and you will find gems.
