Hey there, I'm using EzDrummer with a Yamaha DTXplorer electric drum kit.

After I bought it I realised Yamaha has a very weird idea about Drum Mapping, and use the most nonconventional map I've seen.

This means my Kick drums plays a Snare, and my Snare plays a Splash.
I really have no idea how to fix this, I've tried Hyper Edit but don't even know if this is the right method.

If anyone could tell me how to merely tell it that when X is played, infact play Y - I'd be really greatful and might have no waisted £500/$1000.

You can use the map instrument object: open the environment, choose New > Mapped Instrument. A window pops up, close it for now. Hold down Option as you click-hold the output triangle of the little (Mapped Instr.) object, and navigate to choose your drum instrument track. That routes the MIDI output of the mapped object to your target instrument. Then drag and drop the (Mapped Instr.) object onto the drum track's header in the Arrange area. That routes the MIDI on the track to the (Mapped Instr.).

You can now double-click the (Mapped Instr.) and set the desired "Output Note" for each incoming note.

PS: You could do it another way with a switch in the "click and ports" layer and a chord memorizer object, or a Transformer with the "Map" feature. That would display the output notes in the Piano Roll, instead of the incoming MIDI notes.

Wow, I didn't even respect a reply at all.
Great forum and great post, seeing you wrote a book I might have to get my hands on a copy.

Thanks a lot, works flawlessly.

I have just plugged the DTXplorer in to Logic for the 1st time. Davids instructions have allowed me to get great results from the LP8 samples & synths if all the drum sounds are played into one track.

I want to send individual drum sounds to their own tracks.

Do I have to create multiple Mapped instruments to ensure the output notes are as I have requested them?

I'm sure there was a post about exactly this, but now I need it,I can't find it.

Any help much appreciated!

JJ

Hi,
I tried the environment solution; and it works great but..
Is it normal that the drum track is only remapped when played back and not in real time?
Have I done anything wrong or this is just normal?
Is there anyway to apply remapping when performing?

The notes are remapped while performing and upon playback, but the mapping occurs after the track. So even when performing, the original notes reach the track, then are remapped, reach the instrument and you can hear the new mapped notes. However, when recording, the original notes are recorded, and upon playback they are mapped the same way they were while performing.

You could insert the Mapped Instrument in the "Click & Ports" layer of the environment, somewhere between the physical input and the sequencer input. This will remap ALL notes before they even reach the Logic tracks, so it will work with all tracks.

In that case it might be a good idea to create a little switch to easily turn the mapping off (for when you're playing something other than drums).
